Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Hi everyone.  I am 3 months post tx, geno 1a.  I feel really good and have finally even gotten off of the sleeping meds...life is good after tx (for me).  The only thing is that sometimes when I get up from sitting, I feel a very deep pain in my hips when I first get up & start to walk.  I'm not sure but I think I remember reading in here that RA is sometimes a problem after completing tx, and I am worried that this might be it.  Does anyone have any information on this?  I tried doing some research here in the forum, but couldn't find anything on it.  P.S. I'm not sure if I spelled it correctly either.
Hope you all are feeling well today.
Eileen

Aloha---I haven't posted in a while or even checked in; thought I would do so this morning and this thread caught my eye.  I am now a tad over 4 months post tx and I have had the same problems.  I see we're close to the same age---but I did only 24 weeks of tx.  Every joint in my body aches, but I still do the work I've done, although I'm slower.  My thumb and middle finger have frozen up on me (from using the weed eater and riding the quad).  I'm sure hoping this is all because of residual meds and will go away in a couple of months.

My hair, which started falling out and then went totally straight (from curly) at around the 19th week of tx, has finally gotten back to normal---right at the 4 month post-tx.  It's amazing how it switched---one week straight, the next, curls!!

Other than the pain and stiffness, I feel great.  I'd feel better if I wasn't so sore.

BTW: what's RA?

Aloha, Michelle

Lady,

The first thing I would try is a chiropractor.  It could be that the sitting has caused a bone to shift and you just need to be adjusted.

Luckily for me the rest of my bones & joints feel great.  It's just at night when I stand up from sitting in the recliner after watching tv...maybe it's just the chair LOL

I started losing my hair at about 8 weeks into tx & then after about 3 months, it started growing again.  My hair used to be wavy, now it's straight as a string with no body to it.  Oh well, be careful what you wish for..you just might get it. I always wanted straight hair, but it always looks like I just got out of the pool. Could be worse tho! and I'm thankful for what I have.

Hi Lady,

I  have tx induced RA.  Actually I tested positive for RA 4 years before I did treatment and never had a symptom from it.  2 months before I  finished tx I had m y first RA flare and a week after tx I had my second flare.

RA in it's most common form tends to attack the small joints of the body (hands, elbows, knees, ankles, feet, fingers, toes and wrists) and it is almost always asymetrical (if the right hand becomes symptomatic, the left is almost sure to follow).

However, it is not unheard of for RA to start in the hips or shoulders.  You should ask your doc to run some tests on you for the RA factor.  Keep in mind that a lot of heppers test positive for the RA factor and for us the diagnosis is also based on other things such as family history.  My case was pretty clear since I had tested positive years prior to treatment and never had a symptom, my mother was severely disabled from RA and in a wheel chair.

In any event ask for the tests.  RA does most of its damage with in the first year. the test is inexpensive and one should surely be safe instead of sorry.

Hey lady.. Sorry to hear you are having pain.   I get pain in my hips , my left shoulder, and left knee and left wrist.  Seems like the weather affects mine.  when it got all cloudy and damp here this week, I have really been feeling it.  But just thought it was from overdoing it this weekend, by going to the football game., and staying in bed all day on Saturday...  Hope you find out soon.

Thank you for all of your advice.  I'll just keep aware of it and if it continues I'll have it checked out.

I went for my 3 month post tx bloodtests this week.  Now I have to wait a week to find out the results.
Last time I was still SVR and hoping for the same results.

Happy Halloween everybody!
