Riba rash and why?

The good news is my 4 week labs show UND but they cheesed out and the test was only <615. My NP said they will do the more sensitive test <5 at 12 weeks. At 6 weeks I am getting some extra shots of Neupogen (RBC) and procrit. My WBC is 1.5 RBC 3.48, Hemo 31.9, Neutrophils 33.8 Abs .5, Lymphocytes 57.6 H Abs .9 blah blah blah.
Getting winded on a flight of stairs, can only run downhill being pulled by my dogs(Not kidding about that) but still working and doing Pilates.
What is really buggin me out is this ****** Riba rash! OK any of you seasoned vets, can you chime in how long it lasts? Throughout the whole TX or does it come and go? I've got the gold bond but told my NP today I am ready for a Dermatologist. I have it on my chest and back. It is very sun sensitive like a chemical burn. Anything that touches it including clothing or a seat belt irritates it. EEEEUUUUOOOo. Does anyone know what about Riba causes a rash? My kid is on swim team. It's summer and I am apparently allergic to the sun! I know I need some cheese with that whine.
Sorry about that buzz kill, I need to be happy that I am UND at week 4! Yahoo!

I've had a nasty rash in all the places the sun *doesn't* shine - but places where I get sweaty or my underclothes rub against.  1% over the counter Cortisone cream has been pretty good at keeping it at bay for me.

From all the different experiences that I have heard about here there must be several different mechanisms (all set off by the Riba?) that cause rashes.

PS I did have a rash at the end of my 72 weeks that was completely and totally separate from the ribarash..............I'm now about 18 months post tx and I STILL get flare ups of it.

In my cause it is an autoimmune problem that is causing it - if your rash is really that bad it really might be worth it to go to the Derm but make sure it's someone that is familiar with HepC or you might get the wrong diagnosis.

Jerks jerks jerks how much more money could it really be to give you the right test so you'd be absolutely positive (I unfortunately got stuck at 400 at week 4 and had I not had the more sensitive test I would have "thought" I was UND and never have extended and probably not gotten SVR).  Most likely that is NOT the case with you but doctors should see how crucial it is! It makes me so mad!

Anyway - had the rash all throughout treatment. You ARE allergic to the sun right now - you're becoming the vampire that we all do tend to become when we are on treatment. Nothing can be done about that. The rash was helped tremendously as long as I put on a very thick long lasting lotion (like Gold Bond). Several times a day. Once the rash starts to abate do NOT stop with the lotion or it will come back (believe me I found out the hard way).   I dabbed on a bit of the hydrocortizone .1% when it got really really bad but basically found that the regular lotion did the trick and got rid of it pretty well.

Sorry you have it so bad. God knows we understand how itchy and frustrating it really and truly is. I STILL have scars from where I itched myself to death before finding the Gold Bond. It's great but anything that is THICK and LONG LASTING should do the trick for you.

Good luck.

I had the rash for 4 1/2 months post tx. I had it pretty much from week 20 onward. I empathize with all who suffer, or have suffered, with this. I know folks, too, that didn't have it during treatment. You can read many threads on this forum about what folks have used..no sense wasting space here. I was lucky and didn't have it on my face, but arms, legs, and torso looked like a battle ground. My neck would swell up 2 sizes from irritation. Yeah, I scratched, and scratched..etc. Drove me and my wife crazy. One thing that helped me was I literally bathed in olive oil. Of course I couldn't go anywhere or wear anything but I did get relief. I will be going for 6 mos test in two weeks, still UND. God Bless All in this forum.

..... I know I need some cheese with that whine...........

You call that whining? Go read some of my old threads :) ! J/K but you just whine all you need to, this sheeet su*ks (noticed you can put hell in here but they are blocking the word su*cks?)  There will be many days the need to whine may hit! Let it out :)

Oddly.... I have more rash in the past 2 mths and I am 15 weeks post tx!? Not sure what this is all about!? If I coated down with the gold bond thru tx, it kept it at bay, but that wasn't one of my bad sides, was a bit luckier in the rash.

Feel better and huge CONGRATS on the UND !!

I am  one of those that has  the Riba Rash throughout treatment.  I have a dermititis form of the rash and m y GI had me wash the affected areas with Head and Shoulders Shampoos (any dandruff shampoo will do) and then apply over the counter hydrocortisone cream.  This seems to keep it under control for me but the minute I stop this ritual it comes right back.

Mouse
P.S.  I have it right in the middle of my face  between the eyes and into my eyebrows.   Thank goodness my glasses hide most of it.

Congrats on your UND!!!  That is a BIG deal. What a great start.

Your hemoglobin...unclear what is that at?  Your ANC - absolute neutrophils, am I reading that right at .5?

I don't know what it is about riba that causes rash, I just know it does.  Perhaps someone else will know.  I hope you get relief soon.
