Dear Sandy,

I was wondering how you made out with your appt. yesterday?  Any news?

Yea, we'll finally meet!!  I'm happy for Sue, I didn't hear that about her being a grandma.  I saw her in passing on my appt. day, but she didn't work me up, Tara did.

I can relate to your being sick of Interferon and Riba, look at how many times, I've done it!  But, if they came out with something that ended up being about a 90% chance of clearance that included Interferon and Riba, I'd do it again under those circumstances.

I can't remember if I ever told you that 2 years ago (this April will be), I had a microdiskectomy back surgery done on L5-S1 for a herniated disk.  I had been trying to treat it with PT, epidural/steroid injections, and pain meds for a whole course of 6 mon., and I was in agony and finally decided to get this outpatient surgery.  I was a wonderful success for me.  Since last tx, I've still been troubled with being unable to sleep w/o sleep meds (currently Ambien-CR,), muscle pain, slight depression, low thyroid(not totally hypo, but enough to take low dose Synthroid), hot flashes(even though I was already on HRT), skin problems, weight gain, sinus/ear infections, oh yea and my last blood sugar was going up.  I keep on wondering how much of this is normal age related problems and how much of it is due to all the tx's.  I know Type II diabetes does run in my family anyway. My sister who doesn't have HepC, is hypothyroid. And I have been post hysterectomy for the past 15 yrs, even though I was maintained fine on HRT until this last round of tx, now it feels like my estrogen-only, is not working. Sigh...  it's always something.  I just want to be feeling right again.  I am post-TX 7 mon., almost 8 mon. I'm 45.  Feel like 65!!  I feel like I'm thirsty all the time, but my Int.Med doctor tells me to stop drinking so much water. I can't win!   Susan

Wow, two Dr. Johnson's that are the best! Aren't we lucky.

Dr. J was as usual, his wonderful self and we spent quite a bit of time together going over all new MRI's and ultrasounds. The Ultrasound remained the same as the beginning of therapy in 02. I take this as good news-at least it didn't show any more damage. The MRI of my left knee (which was ordered by Shands), showed a significant torn miniscus and needs to be taken care of. The MRI of the spine (ordered by Neurologist showed significant Spondyliothesis at multiple levels and once again the Nuero suggested seeing a Orthopedist. Just like the last time.) Dr. J suggested I go back to Shands for all treatment at this time, as this Orlando Docs seem to be giving me the run around. He is setting up another appt. at Shands with a Neuro for me. My enzymes are slightly elevating with every lab, but at least, not flaring like before. His take on the Neuropathy at this point is probably interferon induced. Their is no guarantee with the knee or back surgery regarding the Neuropathy of feet and legs. In my mind, I am not going into any surgeries, unless desperately needed. Shands had told me about Lyrica and I asked Dr. J. about this, but he was reluctant to write script as he did not know that much about it, except it is much stronger than what I am on. The Neuro told me to up my dosage of Neurotin and gave me a schedule to follow for a week, to see which dosage worked the best for me. I am on my way to my Psychologist today and truthfully, I always feel better after I see him.

THis d--- disease has caused me 4 yrs. of h---
I have had to give up my career, almost all social events and caused tremendous heartache.
I am definitely finished with Interferons and I am think about Holistic aides. I had already started them prior to the maintainence therapy, so I have them all. I will let you know when I start.

By the way, Sue is now a Grandmother- a little baby boy and of course she wasn't there. I missed her as she is so good, but I would have been home also with a new baby.

Tara made our appts. together in April, so we can finally meet. I am looking forward to this.

AH no I didn't know, I thought she went to see the OTHER Dr. J!

As long as they are both good - it doesn't matter. :) :)

Hey there,.....You do know that we're talking about different Dr.J's, right?   Mine and Sandy's Dr. J is in Lakeland, Fl, not the the Dr. J that you saw up in New York.  I couldn't travel that far to see that Dr. J.  Anyway, nice thought...

BTW, I love the Dr. J in Lakeland, too, because he's so nice and is knowledgeable in what he does.  He's a grandfatherly type of doc, who has a nice, kind, listening to you type of heart.

Oh my God I loved him.  Dr. J the rock star of Hep doctors - what a WONDERFUL caring and kind man.

I wish I could have afforded to go to him for every visit.

WHEN I get back my SVR reports I am going to write him and thank him for encouraging me to do the 72 :)

I can't wait to read her report!
