So much for my 2 log drop.....

by dmhrdh, Jun 07, 2007 12:00AM
My nurse informed me today that she was incorrect about the 2 log drop.  To stay in the Prove 3 trial you have to have a 1 log drop by 4 weeks....2 logs by 12.  So much for all my 2 log drop hoopla!!! Darnit!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I looked at your other posts.  You are in week 6, right? And you need 1 log by week 4, 2 by week 12, right?  The results you just got, are thy at least 1 log by week 4?  If so, you are still in the running.  Unless I missed something, you're still at least in the running.  Anymore changes to riba?

Don't be disappointed by that.  You might be undetectable; the only thing they are saying is that you had at least a 1 log drop, but it could be more.

I don't remember the 12 week criterion.  I think it is undetectable, not 2 log.

I am in week 8 now.

I guess I didn't make it clear in my post.  I am still in the trial :-)
I started back on 600 mg Riba last Friday when my Hgb got back up over 10.  They have just left me there for now. I'll probably have a CBC done this week.
When I though I had had a 2 log drop I thought...what the heck, I don't care if they ever increase my Riba. Now that I don't have that cushion, I'd like to increase if possible....ASAP
So, yes, it's not bad news....just not as good as I thought a couple days ago..

It is good you're still in the trial... and hope things ultimately work out for you in clearing this d*mn virus... Libby

I think the doctors like to hit the virus hard the first 24 weeks. But of course, I don't know much about the clinical trial. I'm on conventional tx. 38 weeks/51. Tomorrow will be only 14 left. I have been undetectable since week 14.

I'm feeling a little better about it all now.  Just was a bit of a shock.  But, I went through my old labs from last treatment and I didn't have a 1 log drop at the 4 week point last time so it's still good news :-)...just not quite as good as I had thought...
I got the news today that my Hgb has risen all the way up to 11.7!!!  So....they upped me to 800 mg Riba starting today.

livindabest,
I guess you could say dropping logs is always a good thing, right? HA!  Sorry I got you so excited only to be referring to my VL ;-(

Thanks everyone for the encouragement!

I have started having bad acid reflux about an hour after I take my VX-950/placebo dose.  It feels like the pills are stuck in my throat and burning.  They're not.  I have no problem taking pills.  Of course, the acid then causes me to become nauseous.  Anyone else???

Do you have acid reflux with anything else? Maybe you should make a separate post for the question if you're trying to reach others in the study.
I know a lot of people on tx have increased GERD or have it fot the first time. I just haven't heard of it happening withthe meds.

regarding acid reflux, you might try this.

sounds strange but works just about immediately.  vinegar, best is unfiltered from health food store, but any kind works.  put approx 1/2tsp to  1tsp. in 8 oz of water and sip, it is tangy, most people would think that because vingar says on the bottle 5% acidity that it is acidic to the stomach, but that is not so it is realy alkaline and will reduce the acidity in your stomach and the acid reflux will subside. could also add 1/8 to 1/4 baking soda to the water to neutralize but i usually just do the vinegar & water.
