Speaking of Starting Treatment

Hi All.  I am also planning on starting treatment and have educated myself as much as I can on what to expect thank to all of you who have posted.  One thing that I have not come accross is dealing with the injection itself.  It is scary for me.  What was it like to do it the first time?

First, are you getting the prefilled syringes?  Those are a breeze.  No vials, no filling the syringe.  All you have to do is take the cover off the syringe, hold it needle up, give the plunger an easy push to bring the liquide to the tip of the needle. Give it a little tap to get out bubbles.  I think with the size of the needle, you will find tht there is no pain whatsoever piercing the skin.  I took tylenol about a half hour before the first few shots, but I personally never had any shot reactions, and quit taking the tylenol.

IF YOU DON'T USE THE PREFILLED SYRINGES THE PROCEDURE IS DIFFERENT

Good luck

Fingirl! the very best of luck to you, maybe your sides be gentle and your SVR great!

Flguy: a friend who frequents this board said, once she could see that she could do it after a couple of days, she was actually *euphoric* cause she saw that she could do it....

'What was it like to do it the first time?'  TX, right?

Well, it was kind awkward when I first put it in because I did not know what it was going to feel like or if it was going to hurt.  When I put it in and shot it all the way there was a big relief that came over me.  A little later I decided that it actually went pretty well and that I'd have no problem doing it again.  I'm not quite sure if I'd want to do it by myself.  I think it's a good idea to have someone else with you.  I think you'll be relieved when you get over that first hump.

The injections are easy. The needles are subcutaneous, so they are very short and thin.  You really can barely feel it.

I hope all is well with you and good luck with whatever decision you make.

Hi, my dr. showed me how to do it the week before in the office on a fake piece of skin, so when i did it at home i watched the cd(twice) and read the pamphlet(a bunch!) LOL...it wasnt too bad and gets easier each time...i put ice on it after injecting cause it leaves bruise marks on me, and this seems to help...i also drink lots of water...all the best to you, and good luck with your txing...

blessings, Julie

Thanks, Deb.  I thought that I will be doing it the first time.  I will do the shot on Saturday nights and I can't imagine my doctor will be available...even the first time.

you mean the first time it is done or the first time YOU do it?

It was a little creepy. thinking about it too much doesn't help. If you are doing pegasys there is a cd with the "how to" but what is easier is the printed instructions.

The needle is too short for you to hit anything important.  Follow the instructions. Do not think of what can go wrong because there is not a lot that can.

let us know what you are doing and if you have prefilled
