Teeth Pressure

by Forseegood, Jan 26, 2008 03:55PM
Anybody out there have this? My mouth, teeth have been killing me, all of them. When I drink hot tea or something cold, it goes all the way up to the root, da pain! da pain! yikes! I just spoke to my dentist and he thinks it's because I'm overly nervous and I'm clenching my teeth together, my jaw, at night or even in the day....anybody ever have this? man it hurts!

Yup, had the same problem on tox. Thought I had a tooth problem but dentist said nope, you got great teeth but you are grinding them. Seems when the body is under stress this happens. Gave me a mouth guard molded from plastic to wear at night which helped. After tox I stopped doing it so much. Still do it too much though.

I'm with the dentist on this, too much stress.  The remedy: avoid alcohol threads and anything that hints at politics. Also, stick with the poo and the sex threads.

Yes!  Yes! Yes!  Before by liver bx I had the same thing. To make a very long story short I was told it was TMJ. I was griding my  teeth in a bad way. I paid 600.00 for a night guard to wear, it did nothing for me. It comes and goes.

Hope you feel better.

by jmjm530, Jan 26, 2008 05:37PM
It could be pre-treatment stress syndrome (PTSS) not to be confused with "pssst" as if trying to grab someone's attention in a dark alley.

But seriously, a number of us, including myself, did start to develop some stress related symptons just prior to treating. On the other hand, given the hot/cold thing, you could need a root canal job. Is this dentist any good? What genotype are your teeth?

Had that problem, they "suspected" I was grinding at night.  Made me an expensive night guard, I bit through it on the first night!

Anything that relaxes you will help.  I found ativan at bedtime was the way to go.  Fortunately it went away after I got past the stress.

$600 for a nightguard? I only paid $40 at Kaiser Dental. You can buy one of those football guards at the local sport shop for less than that even.

You are going thru alot. That could be it. Trying to decide what color to die your hair, har har.

so you guys want me to look like one of those "special kids" walking around with a guard helmet...that's with little wisps of grey hair coming from underneath...where do I find a photographer, I'll certainly be ready for my CLOSE UP!!!!!!

You guys think LA is expensive? you guys got ripped off...my dentist is only charging me 200 bucks for that head gear thing...boy I tell ya....he also said I should get some muscle relaxers...I remember those from the 70s, Soma they were called? well, I guess there are some positives....!

Yes, I have been noticing it alot myself.  I don't know if I'm grinding them in my sleep or not, since nobody is here with me when I sleep.  Think I should try to get a mouth guard anyway?  I'd had to waste the money if I'm not doing it.

I think you'd be cute stumping for Jerry Lewis... some black shoes with real thick soles, coke-bottle glasses... maybe some leg braces for authenticity :o)

That poo thread was tipping toward theology, huh? I thought it should have stayed, although heated, it was interesting.

I hope you feel better soon,

Bill

football mouth guards. You heat them up and bite down on them. It's been awhile since I looked. I wasn't talking about helmets and most Jerry Lewis poster children don't wear helmets, last time I looked. So you'll be ok.

I heard GoofyDad wears a helmet to bed when he's having sex. He's a wild man I hear. . . . . . . . . .

Puts one on his hand too!

Ok, seriously. Open your mouth as far as you can and hold it and notice all the tension and muscles and then slowly release them and close your mouth slowly. Now grit your teeth as hard as you can and notice the muscles and the release slowly until back to normal. That should help something. Also turn your head in a circle 5 times each direction two sets. Relaxation techniques. Hope I explained them correctly.

wow, you heat them up and put them into your mouth? are they made of wax? can I get them at Big 5? or do I have to go to a specialty store? I can't imagine what they taste like...but I'll try it, I won't be seeing my dentist till next Saturday, maybe I they'll work! I'll try those exercises, anything to get rid of this pain...thanks for sharing...you didn't tell me if you snowboard?...I used to ski...was good too after I took lessons...me and my girlfriend in the Austrian Alps in the 80s....with Hans and Dieter the Austrian Ski Instructors, what jobs those guys have, teaching skiing to a bunch of tourists...but that's another story:)

Bill:HA HA HA HA! you get funnier the longer you shoot that stuff!!!!! yeah I thought that thread was interesting too, of course I wrote my two cents cause I can never keep my big mouth shut, then it was pulled before it posted, so all were spared...:) you know Chuck Berry was indicted for that....

Hi 4C,
I just got back from a gorgeous week in Sedona, AZ, i.e. paradise.  Just a thought: Maybe a visit with a neurologist is in order - if nothing seems to be wrong with your teeth.  Years ago I had something called "trigeminal neuralgia."  It's probably worth a google.  Hope it's not what you have though.  Another thing I've encountered is a cavity in a crowned tooth.  Can't x-ray through a gold crown, so something like that can easily go undiagnosed.  Hope you're feeling better.

yeah, I wondered about that too, being that I just spent what you would pay for a car there, I was thinking that maybe my dentist didn't want to even address it, but that's maybe unfair of me...it would be against his work, because I've just had all this work done a year ago or so. I have a passel of porcelain crowns, and I doubt they could see through them either...but I will say this, the pain seems to transfer from one side of the mouth to the other...

I betcha there are people here saying, wow, if she's crying about this piddley shite, wait till she does treatment! lol....So glad Sedona was nice for you, but you had to come back to all this rain, though I really like it...it's so funny about people in LA - they aren't used to rain and it's the big headline news, what do you think of this rain, wow, it's sure raining! I had to use an umbrella!...duhhhh....so what? it's weather! then the way people drive...they act like they are all in shock...it's not battery acid, it's just some dang water! lol.....sorry if I'm being a little snarky, pain brings that out!:)

forsee-the athletic mouth guard isa v good suggestion...they are  cheap& easy to fit..i believe we immersed in hot,hot water then clamped down on 'em as soon as temp was bearable..you end up with a relatively good fit-they are composed of a 'soft' plastic/rubber and are relatively bearable&nontoxic tasteing....goodluck w/ this last bit of pre-trx stuff.....
LL-yeah,what happened to the "poop thread" ??? mmmm inquiring minds need to know!
hope you are cruising into the final lap of trx with a full tank& an attentive pit crew...(-:

Hey gal, gee just finding time to view other threads (actually been spending time on Vipers site, great chat last night) do you ever view it - it's an east coast site - pretty fun:  http://hcvsupport.org/forum/index.php.

At any rate - I have bouts of very sensitive teeth too - go figure..
Mostly if I have anything cold or seet - also they are decaying real fast now - have a lot of dental stuff to do before tx. I also have real bad TMJ and RA in my neck and Jaw - may contribute to these horrible headaches I have EVERY DAY- ugh

I think I'm suffering from the the pre-tx issues as well....guess we should plan a date and stick with it. I taught Franklin Coveys classes for years (time management, 7 habits etc) you'd think I be good at this by now.

Don't snow board. Might take it up when I grow up.  Busy working on my Harold Harb "Phantom Ski Method".  I hear tight ski pants are coming back in. Not for me though. Stretch everything you can around your head, neck, and shoulders. Might kick something free with your hot and cold teeth thingy.

Yup - its from stress. I do that when something is on my mind and I wake up with a horrible headache from it too - so my teeth and head both hurt when I clench all night. You have to try to catch yourself doing it before you go to sleep and try to relax your mouth and mind and take a few deep breaths. Cause usually it starts BEFORE you even go to sleep if you really pay attention to it - you will realize that you are doing it and you can stop it before you wind up doing it in your sleep just by telling yourself not to do it and breathing deep. It works. That always helps me.

I hope you feel better soon.

I've worn a night guard on and off for years due to clenching my teeth while sleeping. My massuese noticed my neck muscles relax after I began wearing it.

You do yoga. Do the lion every night.
And as always, my favorite docs advice, avoid stress. Ha!

by orleans, Jan 28, 2008 09:23PM
They sell gaurds at Sprawl-Mart for $18. They have 2 brands. I like the blue ones as they are smaller(don,t know the name). They are heat & bite type and seem to work well. jm

by GoofyDad, Jan 29, 2008 01:05AM
Soak 'em in warm water, manipulate 'em how you want'em, and then pop-em in. That's the spirit girl. Big time stress release, You might want to start with the smaller ones - but stay away from them blue ones... thems bad juice....

I'm about to order one of these, Orleans, maybe I should order the one youre suggesting from Sprawl-Mart? I mean, I have a big mouth, but maybe not as big as the average dude...or maybe? lol....I've spaced on this but I want to order it...are you guys sure that I can wear this all night? thanks!!!!!

-------------------------------

If all you are doing is sleeping, yes. If it doesn't fit (the mouth guard), buy a different one.

by scratchinghead, Feb 02, 2008 12:18AM

It just might be that the dentist-made ones are slimmer. Not sure. I've had mine fall off but it is never far away. I just feel around it is is usually under my pillow or on the floor. You may not be a grinder, but for grinders, these things are serious business. Are you taking PPC? I know when Durke Pearson talked about talking liquid choline for losing weight and improving brain function (this was years ago and it was specifically PPC) he talked about one of the side effects was headaches.

by scratchinghead, Feb 02, 2008 12:19AM

I mean "it was NOT specifically PPC".

by Forseegood, Feb 02, 2008 01:00AM
To: scratchy
hey, enigma man, can you be more specific? Supposedly I'm clenching my jaw and not grinding my teeth, but bearing down on them I guess....what does ppc have to do with it? I don't take that...maybe you were talking to someone else...thanks for this! what do you mean by serious business?

by scratchinghead, Feb 02, 2008 10:34PM
To: Forseegood

Serious business:
I'm a grinder, need to religiously use a bite plate. You're not sure if that is the cause of your teeth problem.

PPC:
PPC is choline. Choline has a tendency to improve muscle tone at the expense of some unwanted neck and head muscle tension if taken in too big a dose. Not saying PPC doesn this, must maybe because it is a form of choline. Thought maybe you were on the HR nutrition bandwagon (I am, no PPC yet). Tightened up head/neck muscles can set your teeth differently.

Enigma man:
Enigma man (whatever that means) went to Sprawl Mart to get a money order for my daughter's birthday (she waits forever to cash a personal check) and went to the sporting goods section and say about 4-5 different "mouth guards". The 2 most expensive that you could "boil and fit" were  $2.44 and $7.74. Maybe they aren't the solution but neither is $600 for a night guard. But at least you can buy the $7.74 one and try it out without burning a hole in your pocket.
