The Blonde Bond Bomb-- D Craig

The Blonde Bond Bomb-- D Craig

Finally saw the "new" Bond movie, "Casino Royale" with Daniel Craig. A good film but didn't do it for me as a "Bond" film. He didn't have the Bond look, the Bond suave or the Bond one liners. Didn't even have a decent suit to wear until someone got him one. Just too rough at the edges, not to mention being too short and rugger.

And what's with leaving that hot Babe all alone with a bottle of Champagne while he bolted for the airport? A real James bond -- Sean Connerly for example -- would have uncorked the bottle (and her) and still made it to the plane on time. And where was "Q" -- how can you have a Bond movie without Q and at least a few toys. Worst of all was the music. Felt like it was scored in Japan back in the 50's.

For me, Quintessential Bond was to be found in the first three movies-- "Dr. No", "From Russia with Love" and "Goldfinger". I'll take Sean Connerly's Toupee over Daniel Craig's with-it haircut anyday.

Mike: but, do you really call that "getting his hands dirty?"

Mike, Where Mr. Bond puts his hands in the privacy of his bedroom is no biz of mine.

Is this as erudite a discussion as I perceive it to be? Indeed, I believe that it is. Thank you both for your brilliant participation. Mike

If I wanted to watch the guy down the block, I'd watch the guy down the block :) Yes, didn't know who they used for those free-running scenes, but they were excellent. I've seen similar on youtube. Check this guy out if you haven't already seen him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KSr1pozm6Y

I liked the film. Of course, I have always liked Sean but none of the previous Bonds ever got their hands dirty or ever really got hurt. The chair scene was rather intense - especially for the male viewers. I found the film compelling, if that genre can ever be thought of as compelling. He definitely got his hands dirty. I thought they might have used music from The Nutcracker Suite during that rather intense scene but aside from that I liked it. Mike

I thought Mr. Bond got down and dirty a number of times. You might recall his love scene with Pus*y Glore, for example.

HA HA HA! funny, that scene didn't effect me in the least?...ho hum...:)

(although, according to more then a few newbies, I've grown a pair...hope Goof's not around, he'll run with that)

Well, I can't argue that point....but, do you really call that "getting his hands dirty?" Mike

I do agree that Sean Connery was the quintessential Bond...but I just think Craig was less storybook character and more of a realistic Intelligence Operative type guy....although like George Clooney said of his character in Syriana, the real intelligence operatives look more "generic looking" like Bill down the block who lives in Syracuse....they don't want to draw attention to themselves with a big, buffed bod and piercing blue eyes and a tan...but then, I'm getting too much into reality here, they sure wouldn't be calling themselves James Bond all over the place either, ha ha!...I did like the way they were trying to incorporate more realistic political and terrorist intrigue into the plotline...as silly as it is...

I like the way they set-up the new timeline for him, so the sequels will be more believable...and I just thought those opening scenes were really effective...using that real "free-running" champ Sebastian Foucan...and the fact that they mostly stayed away from digital effects and the principals did many of their own stunts...I hate a lot of CGI...thought the sets were beautiful, as usual...and the bad guys were pretty good overall, that "Le Chiffre" with the bleeding eye was really pretty great...those poker scenes were pretty bogus though, I'll give you that...

Everyone's grow, that's the nature of life - you're not suggesting that you weren't born with them, now are you? No, I didn't think so. Mike

Hey, wait a minute - you're the one who brought it up so you made it your business and it's too late now to take the coy route. Mike

well, let's just say I have an honorary pair, but goodie goodie, don't have real ones...at least where you can see them:) I would think that outdoor plumbing like that would really get in the way sometimes, but then, that's a whole different discussion...

It does seem as though Mother Nature could have made things a bit easier but then, she is a woman, so it's undoubtedly the correct placement. Mike

I've heard that particular route referred to many ways, but indeed that could very well be the route Mr. Bond took with MS Galore.

Based on seeing the movie, I just cancelled an order for a matching set of rattan chairs.

as long as we're discussing it, they didn't have to have that extended death ballet with the chick in the falling elevator either, mugging all kinds of "coy" expressions, etc...and she was a "mugger" - when in reality she would of been screaming out "bubbles"...one last look would of done it...these directors should lay off the Red Bull and Vodka sometimes...overall though, thought it was a highly entertaining movie, and I'm not a big one for action movies...unless they have "some thinking" behind them...remember, I don't have outdoor plumbing, so I like "Chick" movies...:)
