Could there possibly be a completely unrelated and different problem going on? That seems VERY long for such dreadful side effects to be continuing.
I had posted a long post to you before but it's gone (good thing because I didn't see at first mom has been off treatment for a year) but it can take a long time for these meds to get out of us and we finish detoxing. But I wonder - has she been thoroughly checked out to make sure this isn't something altogether unrelated?
She is VERY lucky to have you!
Recently there was a man who's immune system had totally shut down because of the treatment. He was in very bad shape. I don't remember what the doctor's called it. The chemical medicines are very bad. We should not overdose with them. Some people committed suicide from the ribavirin. It is very toxic. Best wishes for your mom with kick starting her immune system. She might try acupuncture. I just stopped tx 2 weeks ago so I'm not an expert on post tx. I took the medicine for 51 weeks. I also took Dr. Zhang's herbs that help normalize the liver (stop inflammation) and reduce the side effects. They are costly but what price your way of life? I'm still taking them for another month. I took them for 3 years before I started tx. (sinomedresearch.org) If you email write Dr. Zhang and fax him your labs he will tell you which herbs to take. You can also email Dr. Cecil - he's in Tennessee or near there. He's very approachable. Put his name in google.
I just finished treatment last week and really cannot comment about post treatment side effects yet. First of all your post was way to late at night and the majority of the forum members won't see it until tomorrow. Second the forum removes all email addresses that are posted in exact form. You'll have to disquise it by spelling out the @ and even the .com (ie. xxx at yahoo dot com). Finally, you will find people with problems the same as your mom and some direction as many here complain. Try using the search tool and enter post treatment side effects.
so sorry you and your mom are going through this, at least she has a wonderful daughter that really cares about her, you must be so precious to her. anyway, I can't really help you with a lot of post-treatment information, but I'm sure others can. Why don't you make a profile here, that way people could privately email if they wanted to. But aside from that, I'm sure that you will get some posts here too if that appeals to you more. I hope your mom feels better soon, from all that I know, sometimes it just takes time, and pain management in the meantime. Bless you for helping her.
