To NYC Mark re: TX

Hi Mark,

Didn't want to start another topic within NYGirl's thread, plus is seems you may have had problems reading the posts anyway.

I was curious why your doc recommended 72 weeks?  Maybe you could post your stats -- geno, age, fibrosis stage, etc,  again as well as results from your viral load tests.

I hope things are otherwise going well.

I'm sorry to hear that you've relapsed...it seems to happen to so many people!
My hubby's working too and also takes his shot on Friday so he's muddled up all weekend.
Hang in there! I know this time will work, if you've already been undetectable for a while! Did you say what week you cleared?
One day at a time, and it's going to be well worth every day you've put into this! My prayers are with you!!

Hi Mark!
Sorry to hear that you may have to treat for 72 weeks! But again, it's better than relapsing and having to start all over. Please keep in touch and let us know how you're doing, and what you decide to do after talking to your doctor. Hope you're feeling ok right now with your sides! My hubby is doing better after a really rough time that lasted about 3 weeks. You and he are on the same week, so I know how hard it can be at times.
Hope you're feeling ok right now!!

He's a very agressive treater and considering your prior history, I understand the 72 weeks. On the other hand, you were non-detectible at week 6. Too bad these decisions are never clear cut but I'm sure the both of you will make the right decision. Do your know what stage liver damage you have and were your previous treatment classical relapses or did you respond slow to the treatment drugs? Because if you always responded to the drugs (like now) and still relapsed, then the 72 weeks makes even more sense. BTW I think I only posted on the UK board a few times, so may or may not have been me.

All the best,

Hey congrats you were so UND so early this time - do you know if you were last time?

72 weeks sucks I would NOT advise it unless absolutely necessary - if you are notUND until after 12- just the longer you take the IFN the more autoimmune diseases are triggered and do come up.

By the end my body literally was like falling apart cell by cell. But I made it.

Still it's things like praying my thyroid heals itself and doesn't stay dead that have me bugged out (and that is a direct result from all the time on the IFN.)  Being on all of the meds for so long is tough on the body if not the spirit.

I hope you don't have to do it.  But if you are feeling OK at week 35 maybe it won't be so bad for you.

Thanks guys for your support and best wishes.
Yes, sometimes it's rough going. I don'tknow when your hubby takes his shots, but for me the hardest part is losing each weekend feeling awful. I have to continue working, so I plan my meds to feel worse over the weekend. By the time I begin feeling human again on Tuesday, it's just a few days until it all starts again on Friday. Now I'm going through awful itching every evening. All I can do to NOT scratch. I've lost weight and just barely hang in with platelets and neutrophils.

I was treated a few times, actually. Once a long time ago with just plain interferon. Then 6 months with Pegintron plus ribavirin. I believe I never became undetectable on these two regimens.  Then 48 weeks Pegays plus riba plus rescue drugs wiped out the virus, but not early. It was a study, and I became undetectable just in time to remain in the study. But I relapsed.  On the basis of this sad history, we decided to treat with a double dose and stay on treatment for 72 weeks.

My thoughts go out to all of us still on treatment, whatever week, and hope everyone sticks it out and licks this thing!

Mark

Hi JMJM --

I think you know me from the UK board, where I have posted under a similar name.

Briefly, Genotype 1a; 59 years old.
Starting VL 20,000,000
Previously relapsed (multiple treatments including Pegasys + riba)
Restarted treatment 2 June 06 on double dose Pegasys for 12 weeks, plus Riba. Week 35 now; undetectable somewhere between weeks 2 and 6 (didn't quite get to do week 4). Using Procrit.

Dr. D's advice was to do the 72 weeks based on my history. We'll discuss it again the end of this month and see what his current thinking is.

Thanks,
Mark
