Yes we LOVE Barbecue... Ya'll sound like us (Minus the green egg...LoL)
Hey I Think Beemer has Built a tandoor before... don't know if they called it that, but it was similar... I was teasing him once & told him I wanted him to come build one in the yard down by the creek ....LoL (Hey I still think it would be a killer idea)..Ha!
I'm envious of your Egg... I had pizza baked in one once... & it spoiled me... regular pizza has never been the same since...LoL
Might be a few more years before our travel days are over... but when it happens, one of those is on top of my list of things to get... (I've wanted one for about 10 years now).. Darn It!
So Yes... let me know how it turns out in the egg... But doesn't any & everything cooked in one of those turn out superb...LoL
:)
Thanks for the recipes! I will let you know how they turn out, (can't wait to try them).
We cook on our Green Egg practically every night during the summer and lots in winter also. I have heard that it is similar to a Tandoori oven. Anything we cook in it is fantastic, tender and with loads of flavor. You must be into barbecue if you have seen the Egg in action. Moving with an Egg would be tough, they are very heavy and made of ceramic. I can't blame you for wanting one, hope you can get one soon.
Thanks again!
Anise,
Oh I Just LOVE those big "Green Egg"s... we used to go to those barbecue cook-offs on Stone Mountain... & those things where everywhere...
If we ever stop traveling I'd "HAVE" to get one.. but with all our moves, I'd be afraid we damage it!
Oh, & Also, On that recipe above (if it's too chunky), & you prefer it to be more LIQUID)... just run it thru a food processer or blender...
For the rub... we used the "Magic Dust" Recipe that was listed along with the sauce:
**************************************************************
Magic Dust:
1/2 cup paprika
1/4 cup kosher salt, finely ground
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons mustard powder
1/4 cup chili powder
1/4 cup ground cumin
2 tablespoons ground black pepper
1/4 cup granulated garlic
2 tablespoons cayenne
To make it a little more hot and spicy, increase the mustard powder and black pepper to 1/4 cup each
********************************************************************
If you enjoy it half as much as we did.... you definitely won't be disappointed!
:)
P.S. & Yes Thank-You Shastri... our 4th of July is always a BIG Food Event... (Kind Of Like Thanksgiving)... Only with Barbecue & Fireworks..LoL (I think I Like the 4th better).. Ha!
Tator-tot, my hubs loves to barbecue on our Big Green Egg. I printed out your recipe for the sauce, but what kind of recipe for the rub? We are into barbecue rubs!!!!
Shastri - thanks for your heart-felt 'happy independence day' thoughts. We had loads of fun with neighbors with a barbecue on our deck in our urban forest.

Myown.... I Guarantee.. you "Won't" be disappointed .... we used a dry rub on the ribs & then slow smoked them all day in our Bradly Smoker... with the apple wood... then just dipped them in the sauce.. Yummie... I ate till I couldn't move...Haven't done that since Christmas!
BUT... back to the diet today... I don't know what the heck to do with all this extra food... guess my better half will be eating bad carbs for lunches for a week...LoL
:)
BTW Ya'll... I just got my results back in ...
Guess I'm just FAT & don't have anything to blame it on... (BooHoo)
I'm "NOT" diabetic... & Thyroid is within range!!!!.. Go Figure!!!
Soooo ....I don't have any idea nor speculations as to what is going on with me... on one hand I'm Happy that I don't have those issues... but ON THE OTHER....kind of sad that I can't find anything to blame it on...Shish!
I Just KNEW my thyroid was burned out...
Maybe I am just getting old & my metabolism has really slowed down... I don't get it ... Maybe more "dreaded" EXERCISE is the absolute ONLY answer, because my normally strict dieting is NOT working alone!!!
Soooo, guess I'll start my daily 3 mile walks today... My grandson will probably enjoy the stroller rides anyways.. Dang-it...Ha!
:)
Vic... "the fat chick".... LoL (But not really funny)

Okay... I gotta Share...
I found this Recipe on the net... & it is soooooo dog Gone DELISH... I had to share (Told ya'll I am BREAKING My Diet Today)
This Rib Sauce won the "Grand Sauce Award at the Jack Daniel's World Championship International Barbecue Cook-Off in 1992"
1 cup ketchup (I use Hunt's)
2/3 cup seasoned rice vinegar
1/2 cup apple juice or cider
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons prepared yellow mustard
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
1/3 cup bacon bits, ground in a spice grinder
1/3 cup peeled and grated apple
1/3 cup grated onion
2 teaspoons grated green bell pepper
Makes 3 Cups
Combine the ketchup, rice vinegar, apple juice or cider, cider vinegar, brown sugar, soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, white pepper, cayenne, and bacon bits in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir in the apple, onion, and bell pepper. Reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, 10 to 15 minutes or until it thickens slightly. Stir it often. Allow to cool, then pour into sterilized glass bottles. A glass jar that used to contain mayonnaise or juice works real well. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
VARIATION:
To make this sauce a little hotter, add more cayenne pepper to taste, approximately another 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon. Be careful; a little cayenne goes a long way.
Yummie.....
Warning... this is sooo Good... you might not want to ever purchase "pre-made" sauce again... .. LoL
Happy 4th of July Ya'll
