Toothbrush and Razor...

Toothbrush and Razor...

I want to know if I'm the only anal one here that
uses a new toothbrush and razor after shot night?!..

Before my peg shot I brush my teeth, take a shower and shave.
I throw out the  razor and the toothbrush go do my shot.
The next morning I grab a new toothbrush and razor.

I have done this since week 1 of tx.

Does anyone else do this?
Or am I being overly cautious?

You're still shaving your legs...power to ya! lol.....

ps> I have been dousing my brush w/Hydrogen Peroxide every time I think about it. I am changing it more often. It might help...it can't hurt.
Figure...the peroxide may help with gums and such if nothing else.

I would bet your not alone...

Hope you enjoy your day.

it's overdoing it. That's just me. But hey, for the cost of a razor blade and a toothbrush, go for it. Not like you're buying a new car after each shot.

What other type of cleaning do you do after each shot ?

DOH !!!

No, you are not the only anal one here.

Well, don't feel bad, I have you beat - probably win this one. During my tx, I would get rid of the toothbrush after each brushing. Went to the dollar store so it wouldn't cost so much. You get 6 toothbushes in each package. AFter I was UND, which was week 4, I just changed once a day, if I remember correctly. After I relapsed, things were different, but I have always changed my toothbrush often even before dx - just not as often as mentioned above.

Now what I do is I buy 'childrens' toothbrushes that come with a cap. I do this so that there is no chance my husband could mistake mine for his. The childrens toothbrush is half the length of an adult toothbrush and plus it has the cap so I don't have to worry about his even touching mine.

As far as while tx,,,I looked at it this way.. You still may be detected in the morning, but who knows if at lunch time if you clear the virus - SO IF you use the same toothbrush from the morning with the infected blood on it, there would be a chance IMO of re-infecting. But thats just the way I am and thank God my husband is used to my obsessive behavior.

So I guess you see that you are not alone - I might be though. lol

Geez, I had no idea how obsessive you were with the brushes. I was lucky to get mine back in it's holder. AS far as shaving that ended at week 2 on tx and I still haven't started again.  Don't get me wrong, perhaps it is a good idea to change them esp. after UND, but I had a hard time getting my blood checked and really hadn't thought of it during tx. Maybe next time.

yeah, I'm over the top with alot of stuff. I can't help it though - its weird. Its a control thing I think - but who knows.

You were really having a tough time and I can understand that all that stuff would be the least to worry about.

I actually got used to the childrens toothbrushes now and like them too.

Yep, you are right I wasn't worried about all that a bit. I was lucky if I brushed my teeth at all!  Once my hair started falling, my legs seemed to have less hair too. Now that it's winter, I could care less about shaving.  Maybe in the summer! lol

I thought I was being paranoid because I started turning my underwear inside out after showering.
Blank

I was lucky if I changed underwear at all. Showering a few times a week was a luxury.  Luckily I had someone wash my undies so I didn't have to turn them inside out! LOL  Although I hate to admit that I didn't even change them every day. YUCK.  Thankfully tx ends and we can go on with life as it was, ie' changing underwear and showering etc.  Hope you are feeling better!

Hugs to you!

If I left out anal I wonder what position I'd be in...Missionary?

Now turning your teeshirts and drawers inside out will give you 2 full days of wearing (quasi) clean undies - What a great idea and even the dogs must like it!!

I do buy my toothbrushes at either the dollar store or Walgreens and get 5-6 to a pack for a buck.  I also buy manicure sets (Several at a time at the dollar store) and change those after clipping my toenails and fingernails. Fingernails I usually file down.

I buy the cheap Daisy razors in the plastic pack/bag (usually 12+ a few free ones) and seem to need to shave 1-2 times a week now.  My hair is falling out everywhere (yup EVEYWHERE)  But I use a new one each week because of nicks and cuts.

Thanks everyone...

Honestly changing weekly would seem even a bit over the top to me - I changed it once a month and have been SVR for a year.   I did change razors weekly though - more because I was worried someone else might grab it and use it.

Sounds like you got the underwear inside out down LOL.  Those cheap razors nick and cut me everytime. Especially on tx, while our faculities aren't so great.  I just change the blades, when and if I shave. That should be the same as throwing them away. I can't use those cheap ones or I am a bloody mess.

I don't think reinfecting one's self while on the meds is an issue. Your ramped up immune system can either out maneuver the virus or it can't. What's next, changing your fork after each bite? Using fresh TP for each BM? See how rediculous this can get????

Agree completely and totally but of course I just wanted to say nobody can say it better than Goof.  Just nobody.

Changing your fork after each bite - you just kill me.  But, I'm surprised this wasn't already suggested judging by how often people have been changing toothbrushes..... ;)

In the beginning I changed toothbrushes weekly, and then probably monthly after UND. Also threw out all my old nail clippers, brushes, etc. I don't think anyone can really say for certain if you can reinfect yourself on treatment. For a couple of dollars xtra a month, why not play it safe. As to changing forks after every bite, if I thought HCV could be spread orally through saliva I probably would have washed my dishes more frequently than I did during treatment which was probably twice in 54 weeks.

Inside out isn't such a problem gals.... it's back-to-front what ya gotta worry about. Keep the poo stains in the back, it's sexier that way...

Back to front...omg. Only you could think of the stains!  How can it be sexy to have them in the back anyway!

Jim,  I sure hope you had paper plates. Twice in 54 weeks?  I am surprised you didn't have more critters than the Hep C virus!  We are living off of paper plates at the moment. Microwave in the garage, as our kitchen is being remodeled. Eleven people here this weekend, that was fun!

I know it's a lot for on treatment, but it's quality not quantity right? As to the "critters", my girlfriend at the time was a lot cleaner than the dishes, so not to worry.

I'm sure glad to hear that! A chick that only washed twice in 54 weeks would have to go, even if she were on tx!  I still want to know how you managed not to wash dishes, what did you do buy new ones every week?

SF: what did you do buy new ones every week?
-----------------------------------------------------
Treatment was kind of a blurr so I just referred back to my journal. Turns out I got things mixed up and I actually did the dishes twice a day, just not my girlfriend. So, you might say, it was a clean break with her.
Blank
131817_tn?1209532911
Wow, I'm impressed. I was lucky to eat enough to have to wash dishes twice a day. Luckily we have a housekeeper who did that stuff. Now her trying to get me up to wash sheets was a different story. So you didn't wash the girlfriend twice a day, huh?  I'm surprised. Given my libido, I wouldn't have either! lol

I see how rediculous it is to suggest changing forks after each bite.  I don't bleed when I eat, and yes, I assume everyone grabs a new piece of TP after a BM to wipe (roids or no roids)

It was a simple question, Gums can bleed when brushing as can skin when shaving.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The cheap ones aren't so bad, some are better than others.
Anything Bic stinks, Daisy is OK, not too many knicks and cuts.

I used to change toothbrushes monthly before tx, now weekly.
I'm sure I'll go back to monthly eventually but for the price of the toothbrushes
5-6 for a buck, I think it's more sanitary, for now at least.

Your's was a reasonable question. My serious answer is IMO, that if your immune system can't deal with dregs on a toothbrush it can't deal with the other dregs laying around in your bod either. But change is good. I use a sonicare so I soaked my (toothbrush) bristles in bleach once in a while. You could also retire a toothbrush for a while and safetly return it back into the rotation later -  as the virus doesn't remain viable too long on it's own. Whatever you do, rememebr that anal and toothbrush don't get along....

Goofy: "Front back on the underwear" - just remember when your angling for chicks at the beach, the potato goes in the front. ;)

MyOwn: Seriously, though, I use a good razor and the expensive blades (not really expensive because they keep their edge for months if cleaned properly) and I seldom, if ever get a cut. I don't worry about reinfecting myself (at least not until now), but just make sure others don't use my blades or TB. Should I be more wary?

What is the deal with clippers? Is it because of the risk of drawing blood? Clipping of the actual toenails is not a problem with contamination, is it?

Now I gotta worry about this.
