LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just noticed that the price is dropping a bit. Think I'll watch it for a while.
Just wanted to say hi, maybe I'll drop you an email, been wondering how you are, and Kalio too, hope youre both much better!
The best way, by far, to end up with a million dollars is to start with two million and buy a sailboat!
apk - You mean you're NOT a Vertex plant? That's funny, I thought you were. Even with the drugs outta my system, you still look like a plant. Tell Boger I said hi next time you see him. Oh, and since you're buying, I'll have a Dogfish 60 minute IPA. ;-)
sfbaygirl - Howdy, long time no see, hope all's going well with you. Things are going ok for me, still recovering from the trial experience. I'm about 11 weeks post tx right now and tested UND at 6 weeks post, so that's a nice start. Next PCR is at 12 weeks post tx, keeping fingers crossed for another UND. You ask what's the best way to get these stocks - um, if you have to ask that question, believe me it's best you don't try and get the stock. Just invest your money over a long period of time using a method called dollar cost averaging into a reasonably conservative index fund with good diversification and low management fees (like Vanguard's S&P 500, for instance). That way when you grow into sfbaywoman, you'll be able to buy your own sailboat and retire in style like andiamo here (hobnobbing with movie stars and all).
Anyway, in the meantime with this week's continued market pullback, if the stock dips to my super duper predetermined trough/log drop price, then there's a good chance I'm snapping up some of that tasty VRTX stock next time around. I'll either play the pops like everyone else is, or just buy and hold for the ride. At this point I'm having a hard time seeing Telaprevir not getting its FDA approval. FDA denial is still possible of course, but I haven't heard from a single PROVE 1/2/3 participant suggesting any new sides beyond what we already know about. And although we don't have much long term side effect data, I seem to be doing ok and as far as I know everyone else is too (that stopped taking VX950 months or weeks ago). Sure, the rash really blows, but most don't get it that bad (or at all). And for the relatively few that do get the uber-rash (like myself and pds for instance), even we can recover from it and still score an SVR (not that I'm counting my chickens or anything). I'm guessing (with some education) there's minimal to no long term side effects born of Telaprevir for most who take it. If that's true, then this baby's going to make it - there's no question that when combined with IFN and riba it kicks HCV a$$, plain and simple. Prelim tests so far also strongly suggest it'll kick even more viral a$$ for non-geno 1's, which opens up a whole new market in addition to geno 1's. Plus we're talking about a very effective treatment for a life threatening illness, not just some salve for a pimply butt. So the motivation for FDA approval is definitely there, and the results so far (which keep piling up) justify approval in my view.
In the meantime, I'm just absolutely sure I'll be making ~ONE MILLION DOLLARS$S$S$!!!~ *pinky in mouth*

Good to see everyone. Thanks, Mrmeet, about the price going up and the link! Last month, or month before maybe - it wasn't looking very good, and so it's always good to come here and see good news!
I came here this evening (everything looks so different on the boards - haven't been here in months) to see if anyone had heard about HCV 796 getting pulled. Ya know, I was slated to begin that HCV 796 trial after not getting in VX, and (after reading about HCV 796 being pulled) I'm glad everything worked out the way it did (that I did NOT start the trial because my dad had a massive heart attack.) I'm still OK; he's OK :) I didn't expect to see the drug pulled (the FDA just fast tracked it a few months ago). I can recall having an uneasy feeling about that polymerase inhibitor, anyhow, but - I was going to do it anyhow. I guess that's a prime example of everything working out for the best even when we think it's .... awful. Still hanging on hopes for VX!! (who wouldn't ?)
But at any rate, I had come by the forum tonight to see if anyone had heard about HCV 796 (and someone had posted it), and I also wanted to know if ..... (I cannot remember her / his name, who was supposed to start HCV 796) is OK. I think a few here (six months ago or whenever Wyeth/Viropharma was enrolling) had announced they were getting in the trial; some were uncertain, but this one person was certain, and so - I was just wondering how he/she might be. LIke I said..I haven't been by in months, and so I've been out of the loop.
Back to the report on VX stock - it's good to see this and good to see another report that it might mean it's going to market sooner than later. Someone in the family asked the other day how VX was doing (trial wise). They've held onto it since 2005 - and ..... at one point I think it was 40 some a share, and then it went waaaay down (but not once did their advisor say get rid of it.)
Well... hope this will post. The board sure looks different. Best of luck to everyone! Nice to see some familiar faces (and the new!) Best of luck to ALL!
Hi! I have missed you. Thanks for the info. What is the best way to get these stocks/Great to see you here. How are you doing?
Linda
It appears, if they maintain their cash burn rate, they could fall short on funds prior to vx 950 approval(if approved)..$600 mm in reserves, 2 tranches of notes due soon($100mm) and a 6 month burn rate of $200mm (expected to increase)...they could be scaping the bottom of the barrel or issuing more notes (at less favorable terms now) or stock issuance...gona be interesting
Vertex posted its Q2 report and it looks like it disappointed the traders. The stock is dropping as we speak.
Should I put in a buy order at $33? Or should I just buy now?
That depends on what price you think the stock will reach; if you expect it to hit $70 after FDA approval, then buy it now, if you think it will hit $45, then you can take a chance on a dip and wait. In the end, it is always a guess.
I asked my broker about a month ago and didn't press him on it. When he finally looked into Vertex, he wasn't that enthusiastic, said the company's a one-trick pony. I should have bought some. Maybe the stock will fall a few points when the announcements don't come out in September. Should I put in a buy order at $33? Or should I just buy now?
What's impressive is the fact that the markets are very unstable due to the subprime mortgage failures, etc., and yet the Vertex stock is heading up! Can you imagine what it would be at if the market as a whole was stable? I've been trading the Vertex stock for three years now and originally bought at $11/share. I unloaded that bulk some time ago and bought again in the mid 20's. It's a keeper from here on in.
That's fuuny. I'd never throught of buying VRTX until your little fantasy about me being a Vertex plant. Out of sheer bloody-mindedness [one of my better qualities] I bought some at $30, then some more at $29. Its looking like I owe you a beer, my friend!
No I don't own any, although I was seriously tempted to buy in at $28/share. Too bad I didn't, cuz now it's $10 higher. I'll probably go ahead and snag some up though, because I honestly do think it will continue to rise, especially when FDA approval comes (which I believe will happen with a pretty high margin of confidence based on all I've learned in the last year). Plus even from an emotional aspect, if there were ever a stock/company I'd be willing to lose money betting on, it would be this one.
Do you own any of their stock? Someone I know who follows these stocks thinks they're about to announce some VERY good news.
"analysts at Leerink Swann & Co" don't these guys cover the Japan baseball league also?
:^)
Darn, and I've been looking forward to the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy in September. Guess it's another Trekkie Convention instead.
Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr) gained $2.65, or 7.65%, to $35.76 after analysts at Leerink Swann & Co. issued a note indicating a favorable outlook for interim data from the PROVE-1 study of Telaprevir in Hepatitis C patients. The analysts also said that management comments suggest the key clinical data from PROVE-1 will be presented at the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases meeting in November and not the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy in September.
I suspect that they have enough 12 week data on Prove 3 that something is brewing. Just a guess, but might just be speculation based on the CEO's remarks at the Q2 news conference. The stock began to move after the conference. It really picked up a head of steam today though.
