Most of the time the fruit is sweet enough, at times I like to make it sweeter but I want to stay away from sugar.Banana shakes are great, I have a banana tree from Cosat Rica and they are fantastic. I am going to try agave and see how that works.

Fred, I make a shake everyday with 1 cup of frozen berries, 1/2 banana, 1c of unsweetened vanilla almond milk and 1/2 scoop of good quality organic protein and I find I don't need any sugar. The banana gives it that sweet taste..

A couple of dates or a banana should make it sweet enough

Amen to the no processed foods.  Everyone needs to start reading labels.
Start eliminating the sugar.  I know it is hard and I work on it everyday.  Sugar will not only effect your liver, but your kidneys and heart too.  Like I said...I was that person who constantly craved sweets and still do but I've got to cut out the sugars.

How lucky you are to have fruit trees.  Fruit is so sweet itself.  One thing I've learned to do is experience the flavor of food more than I use to.  It is hard....just keep trying.  I use organic agave when I need a sugar but there is sooooo much sugar in everything we eat....

No stevia it is still processed and a no- no. Get pure organic agave that has not been processed, they have it at Trader Joes, health food stores. NO PROCESSED ANYTHING, IMHO. No disrespect to any other post

I like to add suger to the soursop since its sour and a bit of sugar taste real good. I like honey, my neighbor has bees and I get the honey free but I  did not know how good or bad it was for the liver.

Use agave....in coffee you can use a tsp of date paste.....splenda, stefia and several of the other sugar substitutes cause other problems....  I like agave...it is sweeter than honey.  You can make you own date paste,,,just take a date and mash up the insides of it and it gives depth to the coffee.

Watch your carbs because they like most things convert into sugar.

Try mixing your fruits up differently or adding in some others...you shouldn't have to add sugar to a fruit shake...fruit are sweet and some can be high in sugars with out adding sugar.

Have you tried agave syrup? It is better for you than sugar, very low glycemic. I have made cranberries with it, and it worked fine.

Hi Fred, I thought I should come back to say that I don't add any sugar to my smoothies, they seem sweet enough like they are.

I too like stevia~ a little goes a long way.
BTW: I am so jealous ! We had mango trees when I lived in Hawaii and I can't bring myself to buy one of the tasteless things they sell in the market here.
Enjoy your fruit !
