What is a safe WBC?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the lowest your WBC can go and still be in the safe range.  At my last CBC my WBC was 2.1 HGB 10.0 that was two wks ago. I don't know if my Dr. is keeping up with the bloodwork.  I'm a little scared because today I was exposed to pnemonia and worried I will get it again.  Been having alot of sx and pain, weakness, etc.  Any advice would be great!

Thanks,
Darla

Hi Linda,

I used Gold Bond Ultimate Healing lotion and it got my itching under control...its probably out of the question for your itch.....good luck!
I hope you don't get it on the hindend too!

Hate to turn to the "other side", so I won't maybe....you can only imagine what I mean about this. Ugggghhhh.  I am not on tx, so I don't have the riba rash, didn't on tx either.  Hep C does cause these itchy things. Wish the hell I could figure them out!

All I can say is that I am happy my butt doesn't itch, but tired of the hoo ha itch!

Shall we all have a good scratch??  Ahhhhh, it would feel so good!  hehee

OK now I'm really starting to look forward to all this fun...looks like I may be starting in the next week or two. I'll know Thursday. Still wrapping up a few things - had some skin cancer removed and am getting an eclast infusion for the Ostio on Monday - then I have officially run out of excuses...except of course I have not done my taxes yet..got the program and have it on the list for this week.

I get rashes sooooo easy...everything gives me one (an RA thing I guess) so I can only imagine what the riba will do to me - I like the Aveno as well...something else that I discovered works great on big itchy ones and mosquetto bites is clearasil (the tinted is nice).

Hi Darla!
Yep...We could start a new craze...Call it the "Itchy Scritchy Boogie"...lol It would involve alternating arms trying to get that impossible spot between the shoulder blades, scritching the sides like a monkey, and then a triple scoot on the floor...LOL...and put it to the tune of "Achy Breaky Heart" LOL....LMAO (C'mon scritch my back, My itchy scritchy back, riba rash breakout don't 'cha know...Then I scritch my bod, my itchy scritchy bod, then I scootch my butt across the floor...)  BWA HA HA!

I hope your counts go up...It's tough riding at 10.  I took a cbc today..hope mine go up as well.  My doc says im borderline with my wbc being so low 2.1.  Sorry to here you're under house arrest these days..hope you can get out soon!
I had a pneomonia vaccine 5 years ago...due for the booster now...forgot to ask my doc about it...I can't seem to remember anything these days.  To bad I can't forget I have a rash!  lol
Thanks medic for the info on Aveeno products!  I bought some Gold Bond Ultimate healing lotion and some healing garden today...if that doesn't help next on the list is Aveeno.  I'm getting it on the hiney now too!  That's the only place I haven't already got it.
I have to laugh when thinking of a bunch of people scooting on the floor scratching their hind ends.  lol

best wishes...Darla

Hello!
If it hasn't been suggested yet...I swear by the Aveeno products especially the colloidal oatmeal, and the shower and bath oil for the riba rash..and loratidine (or some sort of antihistamine) for day, benedryl for night...I was so covered by it, it was in my ears, on my eyelids, and in my (sorry if TMI) hiney crack...I nearly did the poodle-butt scootch to get some relief! LOL  Hang in there!       (((((((((((((((((((HUGZ))))))))))))

Your counts are almost identical to mine.  My ANC hoovers around 750 and I'm still considered "safe" my hgb is also at 10.   Have you ever had a pneumonia vaccine?  If  you've had it twice already you should talk to your doc about it and see if he will let you do the vaccine why you are on tx.  I SWEAR by the vaccine.  I've had it and had the 5 year booster and it was the best thing I ever did.  I was getting sick of coming down with pneumonia every other year.

I also carry one of those small bottles of hand sanitizers in my purse.   Right now I'm under "house arrest" because I don't have a spleen and I'm also on Humira.  These 2 things alone make me a little more prone to catching stuff, but so far I've not caught a thing and haven't had to go on any rescue drugs.

Good luck to you.

Mouse

P.S. the rash can come and go but I found pretty much that I had it all throughout my first round of treatment.  Haven't gotten it yet this round.

Thanks for responding to my question with the great info....I feel more at ease!  Yeah..10 is tough..it does take some time to get used to.  I don't know that I'm susceptible to infection but I did have pnemonia twice two years in a row....not something I'd like to do again especially while on tx.  I should be taking another cbc in the next few days...hopefully its better.  how's your riba rash?  I've got it pretty bad too!  does this rash last all thru tx?  hope you have an sx and itch free evening!

they look at your absolute neutrophil count (anc) instead of wbc. generally, experienced hep docs
wont react until you get down to 500 or as low as 300. this count does fluctuate
and many times bounces back on its own. from what little i know 2.1 wbc is far from an
emergency level but still low. the charts show anything below 4 wbc is considered
out of range. generally low white counts among hep treaters is not too big of a problem
but can get bad if you are susceptible to infection. 10 hemo is tough, ive been there.
you will get used to it believe it or not. you simply stay in bed more. im sure your doc
is aware of your numbers.  hang on tight, all the bad sx will most likely let up some soon.
