Why are my stars disappearing?

I'm not here to collect stars on my forehead so this question is more to solve a mystery. Twice I've been up to two stars only to have it go back down to one. The last few days I've had two stars. Where do they go?

Re my above post:  The world has a way of keeping me humble!  Just a few minutes ago I was fast paging through a long thread to check new posts on the bottom, went too far, and lo and behold, what did I see?  The plain, black on white lists, at the bottom of thw page, with one choice as "Contact Us". Sorry, MedHelp!  Obviously I still have much to learn.  : -/ !

Hi Patra, if you ask a question, you can go under the message that you liked the best and as you hover in the left hand corner a "best message" will pop up, you click on it and that gives the person best answer.
It is directly across from reply though you can't see it unless you ask the question and then hover.  Not really sure why that is, I didn't know for a long time :)

I also mourn the loss od the notification of posts to a thread you have marked for '
watch this discussion' .  Also, I hear people talking about giving stars, and see 'best answer' but don't see any way of doing either of those thing.  Oh, and someone was asking about how to contact the Administrator last year and the post said select the ststement at the bottom of the page.  Thank goodness he gave the email address, as I have never seen such a statement.  Now, admittedly, I am NOT good on the computer, but, surely, if there was a button, or a statement, I could find that.  Is it just me?  If so, please tell me how.  I am willing to learn, because I love this site and the people, knowledge and caring/ sharing.  I would like to be better at using its facilities.

I agree I have been lost since the change.  It is really frustrating when they just change the system with no warning, no instructions,
Things not working right, I went to Tools to learn more, it took me to my own home page, that was funny

I guess MH rules on the "easier to ask for forgiveness"

I did notice that there is no longer a pull down menu with my groups

I have to go to my profile and click on the group listed there

you would think they would at least say: we are instituting some changes to our online forums. Please be patient while we work out the bugs

or something

I've noticed the changes too and had some trouble finding the hep c social forum. I wonder how many people don't even know about it? No big deal on the stars. I just wondered where they were going :). I try to give a star to someone who doesn't have any whenever I can. I'm going to dig around for some messages and if I did not respond to any PMs please be assured that it was because I haven't seen it yet.

I would like to know where the letters have gone.  I am having a hard time with the changes to the system and the letters are so small now, what is the point in that?

Hi Carl.  Below is the Medhelp explanation of how you get Badges (stars).

What are stars (badges)?
The icons following a user name are called Badges and represent the level of help and support provided to the community. There will be a formula that determines achievement of different levels of Badges and, in general, it may be influenced by the following factors: community response to your messages and the amount of contributions that a user makes to the forums. This ensures that the people we recognize as being the most helpful are helping as many people as possible through quality answers.
Medhelp

Carl, usually you jump up to three badges at about 300 helpful posts.  I have watched this system for almost three years.  It doesn't seem to go down like that in real time.  I wouldn't put much merit into the stars.  Some of these top answers haven't posted for sometime.  Or don't post often at all.  Others appear at the top as if just put there.  I have jumped up and
down in stars.  It usually happens at the end of the month.  I have posted
on this forum everyday for months and watched this system that appears
to be flawed.

Are some of the top answers very knowledgeable in Hepatitis C?  You better believe they are.  But  some of the top answers haven't posted in years and should be removed from lack of support claimed above.  Then there is others who just seem to progress extremely fast...  accumulating
badges (stars) at a faster rate than I have ever seen.  I can see that one of those was merit.  But only one.   Earning badges (stars) should be based on the merits listed above as Medhelp states.  I wouldn't give this system much concern.  Personally, I'm here to help as many people I can to understand what they don't know about Hepatitis C.

If Medhelp want this badge system to reflect accurate information then they needs to take a closer look with some quality control.

Below is the Medhelp explanation listed with the top answerers.

Who are Top Answerers?
Thanks to all the members who are an integral part of the community, MedHelp has become a destination for people looking for answers to their medical questions. As the community has grown, so has the number of questions on the site. While the top community members devote time each day to helping others get answers or support in their time of need, there seem to always be more questions than answers.
In order to continue fostering a community where people can come to find support, we want to highlight our members who provide a lot of that support. Members will see an icon following the user names of the top answerers in each community based upon how many people they have helped and the quality of their answers. We hope that MedHelp will continue to be a place where people can find help and support.

Again,  I wouldn't give this system much concern.  It could use some work.

Hope this helps
