anemia

Hi everyone, I don't post often but do read daily. I am geno 2 & have been tx. for 10wks now sx. have been few with some riba rage.I read that most seem to suffer from anemia &fatigue. So I asked my G.I. about a month ago about B-12 hopeing to avoid the anemia if possible. Well it seems to be working so far. I am on pegesys & only 800mg riba. Also I goggled B-12 interesting what all it seems to help regarding sx. of tx. Ex. memory problems could it be brain fog? May you all have a great weekend!                                                                                                                                                             Karen

I take the b12 (sublingual) and my PCP also gives me B12 injections every visit.

I just did shot 17.  My NP just informed me I am a "tad anemic" 10.9, tho I feel fine. I was 11.1 last lab.

I believe the b12 has helped me also and I have been slacking off a little in taking it and maybe that is why my number dropped. Just so tired of taking a million supplements, so I slacked, but now I will up it again.

Hope you continue to have little to no sx. My ride has been very easy except for mood swings, but rather have that then some of the other problems that come with treatment. I'm just starting to lose some hair.

I am very curious to know more about B12 with regard to anemia. I am a 2b, week #13 starting tomorrow with 800 mg Riba and 180mcg Pegasys.  Going for blood work tomorrow, but on 3/30 my hemoglobin was 11.6.  I feel very off-balance constantly and no get up & go at all.    Another annoying sx is the itchies, however, they come & go.    Have you heard anything on the use of wheatgrass juice, mixing with other juices. I was reading that 1 oz of wheatgrass juice has qualities of helping anemia.   thank you.

Lila, the b12 helps to build red blood cells, which as you know are destroyed while on tx which then leads to anemia. Some may argue that the b12 can't or won't help when red blood cells are destroyed through any type of chemo tx as we are on, but I would disagree because as far as I am concerned it has helped me,( but I have been taking it for years and that may have to be factored in).If someone has a big drop in a week, of course they would need procrit, so as not to lead you to believe that in all cases you only need b12. If you google b12 and anemia you will get a ton of info, but if you get a chance read the article I posted for you. Very interesting.

PS.... the wheatgrass juice is very good, but taking during tx may not be a good idea because wheatgrass juice removes toxins from the body and you wouldn't want it to remove the meds from our system.  So for me personally I will hold  off on that. It is very good for the blood tho and also helps with weight loss

Wheatgrass is wonderful, but best taken in an enema. That way it gets right to the liver.
