anxiety

I wrote this down below under another title, but some people may miss it, so I will repeat it, as it is important.

For riba induced anxiety, you can get Rescue Remedy at the health food store (it's in a very small bottle). It is preserved in brandy so to evaporate the alcohol put 4 drops in a small glass (about 4 ounces) of very hot water. After a couple of minutes you can begin sipping it slowly. It really works.

You can also take GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid) it supports a calm mood.

If you have lost weight you might be able to lower your riba by one capsule with your doctor's permission, it worked for me after 30 weeks. Best wishes to all.

Thanks about the tip about the water and ice. The only time my heart has raced is when I got near a very handsome man (when I was younger). Also, if you take a shower end with cold water. It's very good for you. Your post reminded me of that.

Wow, had not used it because of alcohol and never heard of doing that. It doesn't diminish the other ingredients? (I'll assume no as you say it still helps.)

That’s good to know as altho I do have Xanax, really want to keep that use to a minimum and thats much better for you.

Green tea is great, as is the chamomile tea. Have a cup every night before bed.

A tip for any who suffer panic attacks (did years back, nasty things they are!)........
when/if your heart is racing, get a big bowl of water & ice, place your face IN it!! Off and on, it gets your heart rate down and helps calm. I tip I got from a Dr. when I used to get them.
(don't forget to come up and breath, :}

of course throwing it over whole body would shock you out of it too,LOL. Kidding! Especially if it really was a heart thing.

Sleepytime tea is also good and it works so fast my son has to be near the bed when he drinks it because it puts him right out. It also contains chamomile.

Rescue remedy is one of the Bach Flower Remedies.  It contains an emergency combination of 5 flower remedies: Impatiens, Star of Bethlehem, Cherry Plum, Rock Rose and Clematis. They also make a cream with added Crab Apple is available as a multipurpose skin salve for external applications.

The Rescue remedy is to be used for demanding and stressful situations. If you are fearful, confused, have received sudden bad news, a family upset or a breavement. Even if you are in terror.
Rescue Remedy will help you face the situation in a better frame of mind.

It's an excellent remedy whenever you feel uptight or unduly bothered, and can usually restore balance. Great to take after an accident.

I drink green tea all day. It high in antioxidants and it crosses the BBB. Even Lipton makes an organic green tea now. I think I like Bigelow (thinks thats the brand) a little better tho. But the L-Theanine in green tea helps you relax.

http://www.web-us.com/l-theanine_anxiety_reducer.htm

"Hundreds of studies exist showing the many health benefits of green tea. But what makes it the most consumed beverage in the world after water is its pleasant taste and relaxation effect. Both of these qualities—and more—can be traced to a unique, neurologically-active amino acid in tea called L-theanine (gamma-ethylamino-L-glutamic acid).

L-theanine is a free (non-protein) amino acid found almost exclusively in tea plants (Camellia sp.), constituting between 1 and 2-percent of the dry weight of tea leaves. It is the predominant amino acid in green tea leaves, giving tea its characteristic umami or "5th taste" (besides the four traditional tastes: sweet, salty, acid, and bitter). Attempts to isolate the L-theanine, with its physical and neurological benefits, from the tea leaves were once difficult, expensive, and inefficient. Economically feasible methods of producing the identical L-theanine now exist and do not require a mountain of tea leaves.

Physiological Effects
The calming effect of green tea may seem contradictory to the stimulatory property of tea's caffeine content but it can be explained by the action of L-theanine. This amino acid actually acts antagonistically against the stimulatory effects of caffeine on the nervous system. (1) Research on human volunteers has demonstrated that L-theanine creates a sense of relaxation in approximately 30-40 minutes after ingestion via at least two different mechanisms. First, this amino acid directly stimulates the production of alpha brain waves, creating a state of deep relaxation and mental alertness similar to what is achieved through meditation. Second, L-theanine is involved in the formation of the inhibitory neurotransmitter, gamma amino butyric acid (GABA). GABA influences the levels of two other neurotransmitters, dopamine and serotonin, producing the key relaxation effect. (2)

Alpha Brain Activity
The brain emits weak electrical impulses (brain waves) that can be measured on the surface of the head. The predominant frequency of electrical impulses correlates with different types of mental states and activities. Brain waves are classified into four categories (delta, theta, alpha, and beta)—each with an associated mental state (Fig. 1). Delta is seen only in the deepest stages of sleep. Theta is seen in light sleep and drowsiness. Alpha is present in wakefulness where there is a relaxed and effortless alertness and Beta is seen in highly stressful situations and where there is difficulty in mental concentration and focus. It is well known that alpha brain waves are generated during a relaxed state and therefore alpha waves are used as an index of relaxation."
