craned - Theoretically it's possible. If the cat just clawed the sh*t out of someone with viral hepatitis (drawing blood), and then ran over and clawed the sh*t out of someone else without it (again drawing blood) - then theoretically it could be transmitted that way. In practice though, it's probably a very unlikely scenario. But there are no scientific studies on cat scratch HCV transmission, so no one know precisely how risky it is.

Of course I meant, "cats can't catch Hepatitis C" either from each other or being viciously scratched by their owner :) I know you know what "Hepatitis" means, but for those new here, it can be a very general term meaning "liver inflammation" and not is not necessarily contagious.

The "cat scratching" threads bring me out, and apparently they bring out all sorts :) Good to see you posting as well.

"can being scratched by a cat cause hepaitits?"

Only if the cat was an IV drug user.

   just kidding ;)

Uhmmm possible in an extreme experience logically - but not probable.

HCV from a cat scratch? That is out there, probability-wise. I would be more worried about getting other infections and parasites. Think of where their little kitty paws have been scratching around!

Maybe ....  if the cat worked at a blood lab that tested for HCV, and the cat somehow learned how to open the tubes and contaminate the lab's needles, and then used the needles to draw blood from patients?

It's a long shot, but definitely possible.  ;)

Wellll...anything IS possible...My Grandma had a cat that would use and flush the toilet...  :) ...and would fetch...and unlatch doors....Still a long-shot...the lack of opposable thumbs would be a hindrance...LOL

I have a cat...Mickey is his name.

Darn, we could have tx'ed together lol!!

What a support system that would have been.  I mean the likelihood of two people tx'ing in the same household.

Over the years here, I recall two couples (living together pairs) who have been tx'ing at the same time.  I know the names of one of the couples, I'd have to stretch my memory to think of the other pair.  Also, if I recall correctly, all 4 went on to svr.  Wonder if there is any research data.....

Charlotte (PDS) and her husband were both treating at the same time. He only had to do 24 weeks though (geno 2), she did 41 weeks.

If not a Cat Scratch,( which I think is highly unlikely), then why not a mosquito, who gets brushed away from the HCV patient, then (still hungry),  goes on to stick its probiscus into a non-HCVer.  After all, many health care workers have contracted HCV from an accidental needle stick!

I knew that you would know that it was PDS.  The other couple was Mr and Mrs Cindy 10. Maybe others out there too.
When I wote that post I thought back a couple of years.  We are nearing the 2 year anniversary that PDS, you, pln, APK and a couple of others started your trial, July-August.  Time flies, huh?

You're right, time really does fly. Before you know it'll be dirt nap time. Oh well, such is life - and death.
