does disability cover tx?

I'm on social security disability and have seen alot of posts about applying for it but not if it covers tx.  I was on it before hcv and am wondering if any body else is on disability and if it covers tx.  I qualify for both medicaid and medicare.  I also qualify extra help which means I don't have copays except $2.50 for rx.  Does anybody know if ss covers tx for hcv?

I would suggest reading the different qualifications.  You usually have to have certain combinations of medical problems.  The fact that I was bipolar along with my physical issues is what got it for me.  Good luck, I wish I could give you more advice.

Hi--I'm new on this site. I was interested in applying for SSD and am wondering how complicated it is. Right now I am on SS Survivors (widow).
I had a bleed out incident and was diagnosed with hep c. From there I was diagnosed with stage 4 cirrhosis and hemochromatosis. I did 52 weeks of the old SOC Interferon/Ribavirin, and am now 1 year post tx with my SVR. I'm now dealing with portal hypertension and varices. I think I would qualify. I don't think I could handle a job anymore. I'm 62 but energy level and muscle strength have gone 'south'. So has my memory--ha ha. Do you really need a lawyer for this? Would appreciate any advice. Also, I wanted to say that, Medicare is a Federal program and should be the same in all states.   However Medicare Part D is the medication plan and there are several to choose from if you qualify for them.  I dont know who you have , but even if you qualify for medicaid, it should cover and what it doesnt the pharmaceutical programs should pick up the copay in full or give you the drugs free.  That is what I learned in researching all this before I started.   Again, Good luck and make sure you work with the doctor too on this he or she can help you.

Hi There.   I am on SSD and have Medicare A & B And part D through Humana for my medications and yes, in Kansas it does cover HCV TX.   I did have a copay on my meds, but  applied for copay help though several grants and programs who were happy to help to the tune of over $8000.    Very greatful I got this help and I know you will be able to also.   The programs I went through were.  Chronic Disease Fund, Co-pay Relief, and Patient Access.   They are all located on the internet for further reference at your convenience.    Your Doctor should have information on these programs as well to help you as mine did.   Good luck and if you need any help feel free to holler at me.   Livinontheedge

Your medicare/medicaid should pay however the manufactures of the medications are offering help to people.  From copays to all of it.  Depending on what medication you are going on, you can do a search for each medication and can find help.

I'm on ssdi and I am receiving medicare and medicaid.  I don't have any copays like some do because my only income is my ss checks.  Medicare covers dr's and medicaid pays what they don't cover and meds, I think.

SSDI is NOT a medical insurance program and doesn't provide health insurance. It only pays you for being unable to perform any work and earn a living.

As I said above Social Security don't not provide any medical coverage.
You say you qualify for Medicaid. But are you receiving Medicaid? Medicaid will help you pay for Hep C treatment but is may not cover all costs. You have to ask Medicaid what they will pay for and what they won't.

How are you paying for your doctor visits and medical tests now? Medicare? Medicare? Private insurance?

I am on SSDI and Medicare.

Good to know.  I see Fecht on tuesday.  Atleast now I have another option if we don't get along.  If he won't do a biopsy I'm gonna find another dr.  My reg dr said she thinks he'll be good for me.  I assume specialists are a little more used to educated patients.  Every dr I went to assumed I was a hypochondriac because I knew things that most people didn't and usually had suggestions when they couldn't figure it out.  Therefore I was obviously making up symptoms as I found them on the internet.  I'm so glad I finally found a good dr that actually listens.

Sure both medicare and medicaid covers tx for HCV, sounds like your medicaid part would just about pay for everything... Good luck
