doing a peg shot a day later?

I have a trip to Amsterdam coming at the end of November.  I leave on a Saturday and return late Friday night (really ~1am Sat morning).  I usually take my Pegasys shot on 6pm Friday nights.  Would it be feasible to postpone my shot until I get back from Amsterdam, instead of taking a syringe with me,risking the possibility of it not staying "cold" during the week, and injecting myself during the flight?

Just an FYI on my post above that I needed to wait/know that also.
Mine said same as Robin_Fla....okay to change a few hours (day) but go back to normal day later. I felt like I was on vacation last night :}, no shot, no shot, no shot! Than I woke up today.....dam*it, there's that shot! First time taking in AM, so far, not bad as usually knock myself out on night ones.
     Have a great trip and wishing you enough energy to enjoy Amsterdam (and that you don't get any screaming kids on the plane next to you to rest up:}

Yes, I travel a lot and my docs advise that I can take it within a 24-hour window safely (+/-). So if my trip returns on the day after usual inj, I don't bring the dose and I take it when I return home.

I have, however, successfully traveled several times with a dose. It's no big deal really. I have a good quality small soft cooler in which I put multiple freezer packs plus the little cooler bag that came with the Pegasys kit inside that. I don't rely on just the little one and one freezer pack as it won't last a long flight. The multiple ones do though. Have never had a problem with security. I bring a copy of script in case but they always just pass it through - even with lots of frozen gell packs.

I have also had hotel put the whole thing into their fridge until I needed it. Can't trust the mini-fridges though bc they don't cool to set temps, but usually food service units are more reliable.

Some advice - take extra riba and put it in a couple of places. That way if you lose something or are delayed, you will have a back up.

Have a good trip!

My doctor, Dr. Cameron Cover with Infectious Disease Consultants, returned my call today regarding some questions I had, one of which was the travel issue.  He said the long half-life of Pegasys and the cumulation of the drug over time will create a "steady state" concentration within 5-8 weeks after initiation.  Based on that, he said missing a day will not be a big deal and just make sure I go back to my "normal" inject time/day the following week.

His big concern was ensuring I drink plenty of water on the plane and hydrate myself before I do the injection.

Your doctor's office may be able to supply you with a small cooler  bag w/ those frozen inserts. I have travelled  6 hrs. on a flight...and it was fine. (Roche supplies them) I believe they have an insert stating how long the meds can remain in bag.

Take it with in a plastic bag, with a bag of ice. My brother travels around with insulin all the time, using just this technique. Better yet, do it on the plane, in your seat while they're taxiing to the runway and just tell the people next to you that 'flying makes you nervous'.

I have a feeling we had similar drug obsessive outlooks on treatment. If I didn't have six xtra vials in the fridge at all times (Peg and Procrit) I started to get nervous. In fact, I'd count my vials a couple of times a week like Srooge his money :) Same with the riba. After SVR, I arrived at my doc's office with a briefcase full of my xtra meds. Almost held on to a couple of vials of Procrit (epo) but one day the realization hit me that I'm too old for the Tour de' France :)

Hope you're doing well these days.

I agree with Jim it's NOT worth the chance of a breakthrough.  No way.

I don't think the seven hour difference will matter much difference, however  what if you miss your flight or it's delayed a day or two? Not sure if necessary, but  I'd porbaly have both Peg and xtra Riba with me just in case. Maybe others here can share how they kept their Peg cold on long flights.

I need that answer as well. I need to postpone mine from normally every Tues. night @ 7:00 PM to @ 10:00 AM Wed. I'll be asking my Dr. when I see him Mon. AM. Will post his answer.

It's not a wise move to take the shot LATER however you could move it up a bit if you had to.  You don't want to give those bugs a chance to come flooding back in and you know they want to. But a few hours difference like that won't matter to much I don't think.  Maybe take your shot at like 8 or 9 on the Friday to draw out the difference a little bit?
