insurance and hep c

Hey guys, newly diagnosed here.. just curious, is it possible to ever own or purchase a home when you have hep c? what if you become svr?
also to some of the older fellow members how did you manage to get life insurance and a mortgage if that is part of the process of buying a home? just curious
best wishes to everyone

Your health status has no bearing on buying a home.  Where it might come in is if you opt for the insurance that sometimes gets offered by the bank in the event you have some kind of disability or death.  You don't have to take this insurance though and it's probably cheaper other ways.

Work benefit plans don't have you take a medical, you just automatically get life insurance coverage.  You have the option of converting that into your own personal plan if you leave employment but then you do have to have a medical and you'll have llimited options at that point with HCV antibodies.

Anyway, no issue with buying a home, only possibly with the optional insurance but I don't know enough about that to comment with any further clarity.

It looks like Joe said "at that time he was clear" .. did not state SVR ... well could have been after attaining Und but ... relapsing later after EOT ?

There is plenty of scientific data on SVR , % of late relapsers and other Tx concerns available in the publication website .. like PubMed , Clinical Care Options ...

joe, you say you relapsed, were you svr and then it happened?  I didn't know that could happen, if so that makes me question the "cure" a little bit..

do you not need to test for certain things when you apply for a mortgage, etc?

My wife's employer offers me 25000 dollars of life insurance for free, when I tried to upgrade to 250000 they rejected me, at the time I was clear, but then relapsed.

Why wouldn't you be able to buy a home-hepc has nothing to do w/home ownership. Your medical records are not germane to this. As for life ins. if you become SVR you no longer have detected virus-but I'm not sure about it completely. Life insurance thru many employers is automatic and your records medically arent checked. Maybe someone w/more experience can help on life ins. Good luck!
