They're on the same list for me but when the sh*t hits the fan on treatment, you need them. I don't blame you for trying OTC topicals first, but if they don't work, consider seeing the sheets. LOL.
When push comes to shove, I do what I must, preferences aside.
jmmjmm, I really would rather stay away from putting more chemicals on or in, me. But thanks. Dermotlogists are on my sheet leest. All they ever do is say,"sun damage." If one of them had told me my red spider nevis could be from my liver, I might have known I had HCV 8years before I got acsites.
Bug, I'll look at your link. Just because I was there doesn't mean I took it in. I've got computer screen ADD.
SFbaygirl, I forgot about leave in conditioners. I think I'll pick some up. Thanks :)
Here's the url to the hair post. You were on too, but I was impressed with all the info. My dad uses scalpicin for his itchy head.

I just had my hair cut and colored last week. They put this heavy duty cream conditioner (I bought some) and told me to comb it through, not to use my fingers. My hair was so much softer and not frizzy like it was. Yesterday I used my fingers with the condioner and it is all frizzy again. Hard to believe that combing it while in your hair works so well!
Those itchy scalp things I get too. I use that T Gel sometimes and it clears right up. I don't use it often, but when the scalp gets really bad.
Thanks for your help today re; getting the meds from the dr.
There was a hair thread about ten days ago with a lot of suggestions. One that interseted me was the pureology hair care products. Suppose to help with people on chemo, unless, as usual, I'm misquoting!

Wyntre, you made me laugh.
I've always had super thick, very dry hair, except for now. I only wash it every 5 days or so. My shampoo and rinse are whatever says its for dry, damaged hair. I could try the tree oil.
I like the hot oil idea. Thanks for the suggestions.
Heres info on scalpicin:http://www.scalpicin.com/
It could be seborrheic dermatitis which is common on treatment. If it doesn't reslove soon, you might want to see a dermatologist who may prescribe a topical steroid like Olux Foam as well as make some shampoo suggestions. You can try OTC skin care products but some may do more harm than good.

Good to see you; sorry you're having scalp problems :( (That's what you get for living out in that beautiful dry desert :) T-Gel (someone mentioned it) is some good stuff for seborrheic dermatitis / dry flakey itchy scalp problems. That was THE shampoo the DOC docs used to Rx for the patients with severe scalp problems (and the stuff worked good). Hope you're doing good otherwise!
i know this sounds yucky but it works for me. i use aquaphor ointment on my head overnite (use it on my body too). its very thick like vaseline, but very effective (more so than anything else i tried & i tried lots). it washes out of the hair in the morning w/ a shampoo. btw, i have short hair so im not sure how easy it would be to apply w/ long hair.
I started using Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Shampoo, Conditioner & Gel about 3 months ago. It helps somewhat with the itchy scalp. I also only wash my hair twice a week now because it is so non-oily and doesn't seem to be dirty. Hope this helps!!

Geez, OH.
Just READING the title of the post gave me itchy scalp.
The power of suggestion. :-)
The other thing you can try (helps me alot) is hot oil treatments. I get the kind that does not need to be hot, but works with the heat of the shower. I massage it into my scalp and hair and leave it there while I shower and
it does help.
I too use the Paul Mitchell tee tree oil shampoo and the noixon scalp therapy, but at least once a week I use the hot oil and it helps. I also only wash it twice a week as well.
We can all sympathize with this issue.
