just to be clear as far as my own case. I don't let them do any kind of cutting (I never did, I dont like the thought of cutting cuticles, etc) where any kind of blood letting might go on at all. All I want them to do is lightly file and buff up  my nails and polish. With ALL my own stuff, and the lady I go to always uses gloves, etc.

Much of the time I just do my own anyway, but sometimes I don't feel like it. With these kinds of precautions, I don't see how I'm putting any body at risk. I've been doing this forever anyway because I don't want any kind of infection, period. There's all kinds of cooties people can get besides this. The place I go to isn't one of *those* places, so to speak, they are really pristine there and many of the customers do this. But I totally respect your opinion on this, and that you may disagree with me. Hope youre feeling better and that your foot is on the mend.

If I didn't have my own tools and was HepC positive I would NOT go to the salon.  There is a possibility of blood exchange to somebody else and it just isn't worth it.

I mean after all aren't WE advised not to go to the salon because we know it's a place of risk of infection?

you don't have to tell anybody about this, only if there is a possibility of blood exchange in some other setting, but you could say you have a contagious disease and you need them to wear gloves, there are light ones that they could use, that will still give them flexibility and protection for them and you. I've never had any trouble with this. just my take.

Child: yeah, deal with one at a time, ha ha!

Yes I just don't want them to make me bleed on anything. I will bring my own stuff ...good idea.
Do you think I have to go in and tell them I have hep ??? if I bring my own stuff?  I don't need them drilled, it just my own nails...it would be nice ...to get pampered...
thanks.

why don't you take all your own implements and disinfectants, polish, etc....and some light rubber gloves for her, they usually just care about the money and will prob go along with you, I've noticed some of the parlors around here are doing this...

there are also some new polishes that don't have as many harsh chemicals, you can look them up on the net or go to a quality health food store. I'm also using some very nice veggie dyes for my grey hair at my salon, they look fantastic, the one I use is a chestnut with golden tones, my hair doesn't grow that fast so once a month is all I need, also sometimes get a nice facial there, using all natural products, come outta there with a pep in my step...

...and just while we're here, lol....I'm using some non-chemical minerals on my face in place of make-up, that look more natural with great coverage, and make your skin look beautiful and glowing...same with eye make-up....I feel like that song in Bye Bye Birdie, "I Enjoy Being A Girl" .....lol
