medhelp site bogged down with advertising.

Anyone else notice how slow this site has gotten? Seems all the google syndication advertising and medhelp international linking is sucking the bandwidth away. Seen it before, the price of success. Not to mention all the new one line posters(paid hits?) since medhelps announcement awhile back of their success and recognition...I've actually seen this same success be the demise of a site in the past. A true shame, the enjoyment is going out the window..
Well, I'm on my 3rd week of work since pulling myself up by the bootstraps and pushing to get out and do something (g). I estimate I'm at about a 45% productivity level, only 65% of the time!!(LOL). I was tempted to fire myself on Monday, but went home and took a 2 hr nap and decided to give myself a second chance, he,he,he. Sure has felt both physically and mentally reviving to get out and feel productive...
I refuse to be one of the people who look back at their treatment time as time lost out of their lifetime, I call it the "whoa is me syndrome" (vbg)

i don't know how sophisticated your computer skills are, but i recently found that my computer is slow when i don't maintain computer by deleting temp files (disc cleanup feature - under control panel somewhere under system maintenance tab.)  alternatively when you have your web browser open at the top toolbar click on tools, at bottom select internet options.  in that drop down menu there is an option to clear internet temp files, and a box to delete offline content as well. check that then ok. whenit is done the hourglass disappears, i then delete cookies from same drop down window.  my computer immediately runs a bit better. but i have to do this almost daily. i forget how much power i have on this laptop (512?) whatever it is i need to add more memory for all the funtions to work faster and more efficient, i hope that this will somehow help you. good luck.

also sometimes when i am on laptop and sliding finger across the built in mouse pad,  to scroll up or down, sometimes an advertise ment opens up, it is frustrating and time consuming, just need to figure out what i am touching that opens these adv. sites. but i don't get anything in my email. do you have all the settings to block spam?   most providers provide online filters for spam, virus etc.  you could also try running free spyware programs i like www.spywareinfo.com, adware (by lavasoft) trend micro has free online scan (same people as pc cillin and also use spyware blaster these are all free. sometimes need to run multiple to clean up computers.  occassionally i reset computer ot previous date to delete malicious stuff that self embeds.

good luck hope something helps.

Elaine, the study is not comprised of a large sample so I think we should be cautious about reading too much into it. I think it is safe to conclude that there is evidence which suggests that hemophiliacs may be at a lesser risk of developing cirrhosis. I think that's good news and that you have reason to be encouraged - I just wouldn't want you to read too much into it. As always, good luck, Mike

There are many many more posts here, a lot of them not making any sense at all and some are downright ridiculously funny.  I've never been a conspiracy believer, but have to wonder if someone has it on their agenda to flood us with junk posts to keep any good information from being shared.  Kind of like trying to burn us all out on foolishness.

Personally, I will not let them, when I feel like a post is bull, I will call it bull.  When I am wrong, I will apologise, but I promise to use extremely good judgement, which is better than most of the "planted" posters can say.  The big trick is to not get pulled into the attacks that will be made by those planted posters when they are not able to monopolize our time or if they try to get someone to offer advice that belongs within the realm of a doctor.

This is a Hep C site full of the smartest and kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of conversing with.  It is an honorable fight to keep it "alive and HEALTHY", in the face of people who want...well, I cannot imagine what some of the fools who have been posting lately could be wanting.  Does not matter anyway.

Nyg said it best...I know who is who here and I need to trust my judgement.  I will always offer up the kind response first,...ask a good doctor, do your own research etc. but when the questions get downright outlandish, I'm going to respond in kind.  Or feel just fine walking away and leaving the fools alone.

Are Chronic Hepatitis C Viral Infections More Benign in Patients With Hemophilia?

Assy N, Pettigrew N, Lee SS, Chaudhary RK, Johnston J, Minuk GY.

Liver Disease Unit and Department of Medicine, Liver Unit, Ziv Medical Center, Technion Institute, Haifa, Israel.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Cirrhosis is associated with thromboses of the intrahepatic vasculature. This raises the possibility that HCV infections in hemophiliacs may differ from those in nonhemophiliacs METHODS: Liver biopsy findings from 12 hemophiliacs and 20 age- and gender-matched, nonhemophiliac controls with chronic hepatitis C viral (HCV) infections were compared for inflammatory activity and fibrosis. RESULTS: The mean ages of hemophiliacs and controls were 35.0 +/- 3.0 yr and 39.6 +/- 5.6 yr, respectively (P= 0.2). Serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels were lower (44 +/- 13 vs 70 +/- 43 U/L) and the duration of the partial thromboplastin (PTT) time longer (49.2 +/- 16.9 vs 31.2 +/- 1.2 s.) in hemophiliacs than in controls (P < 0.02 and <0.001, respectively). Six of the seven hemophiliac patients (86%) and 8/17 controls (46%) were infected with genotypes 1a or 1b with the remainder being infected with 2b, 3a, or 3b. Histological activity and fibrosis scores were significantly lower in hemophiliacs than in controls (1.9 +/- 0.6 vs 3.6 +/- 2.7 and 0.3 +/- 0.2 vs 1.5 +/- 1.5, P < 0.05 and P < 0.01, respectively). None of the hemophiliacs had histological evidence of advanced disease (bridging fibrosis and/or cirrhosis) as compared to 7/20 (30%) controls (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: HCV infections in hemophiliacs may be less severe than in HCV infected patients without hemophilia.

I don't know if this is relevant to Nick's situation but think it might be.

Pro - I have noticed the ads too , but someone has to pay for the page,  on one of the other links on the site, I think it was alergy, they want you to make a credit card payment before posting, because a doctor will reply to the email.
I have noticed and posted about getting alot of medical spam since coming to the site.  Others feel its not from this site, but This really is the only one I have come to, and get the mail each and everytime I do.   But I will filter it out, just takes longer to read my actual mail.

About working, I was off for 5 weeks, and I did kinda have that feeling of wasted time, as I felt like crapola and didn't do much .   Now am back at work and keep busy during the day, but I am so fatigued still.   My HGB is back up to 10.1 or .2, I can't remember right now, but go for my next tomorrow.   As long as its going up thats my goal.. gotta take away the heaviness I feel in my arms and legs.

I have lost so much weight, that my skin is hanging in places.  I feel like I am wearing a rubber suit as I walk, cuz I can feel my skin swinging.. LOL  Its awful.  My hair is about 60 % gone.  I am getting really depressed about that.
Whats growing in is gray and frizzy like.. baby fine and fly away....I guess its time to look at wigs..     I can afford the weight loss obviously, but not at this speed.   Just hope I do not gain it back, as that is how I got here to begin with, after doing treatment 14 years ago, I blew up after treatment , developed diabetes, and the Hepc came back.         Guess will try to do light exercise. but always so tired.

Rosebud - Hope you are feeling well, and that the week is good on you..

I should note, I don't believe I've received any spam email as a result of registering here..But like orphanedhawk, I'm on dialup (not many of us left I'm guessing(g)) and it takes forever to download the thread pages, gets frustrating.

you deserve a pat on the back or something.

it is very admirable that you are able to work, i guess i may have leaned more to the "whoaaa is me" category v. "the woe is me". though i had some pretty sorry moments.

i am glad you are doing well. or it seems better than most.
