medical marijuana

Does anyone have any info on the use of marijuana to control the nausea/vomiting I suffer with daily due to my TX?

  Krusing......CONGRATS on RVR (undetectable), that's great news. Great words to here, aren't they? " fatigue, hang on to the bed post happy dance" , :}  :}

Alady, 'pot' has been discussed many times here, my post was more to point out the absurdness of penaltys for it. I HAD stated.............................................

" I do understand any recovering addicts worries with it, as with any addiction, staying clear of ANY roads there, and with pot, often people with ‘more’ around."

Meds, pain pills, etc. are all battles any recovering addict has to deal with, especially in tx, some here say they can use them, some say they can't. I don't smoke/like pot, but have seen it help many in chemo very much. In the same respect, Xanax may help another, while the other can't do and so on. All pretty much discussed here.

I don't feel anyone here was pushing for anyone to use it, let alone saying it's 'appropriate' for one suffering, dealing with addictions. Individual situations, individual choice's. The plain fact is....it does help nausea and appetite, chemo sides and it is up to anyone recovering, fighting addictions to choose not to use it if they fear it will lead to relaspe.

I do not suffer from alcoholism, yet chose not to drink because of hep c, while some here do still drink a few.  One of many personal choice's here, but I do support that the laws and penalty's in some states are absurd, too harsh.

I feel the need to apologize, of course you're right about addictions, to be honest, it never crossed my drug befuddled (tx) mind that this would be an issue which could do such harm.  Neither do I want to enable use to anyone with an addiction.
I brought up this topic because I couldn't find enough info about using pot for nausea.  I was very pleased to read ALL the responses, knowing there are some others who find it as miraculous as I do.  I will be taking my 6th shot tomorrow.  Yesterday I called for my 4 week blood results, got the amazing news that my viral load (vl, right?) is UNDETECTABLE!!  Am having the lab results mailed to me so I can find out more information.
This forum has been a source of information, hope and support.  Feel the need to say thanks for being here, but I'd feel better if you were healthy and didn't have to be here.......

Threads like these, with people advocating that marijuana be legal, are all the temptation it takes for some people to start back using.

I agree that pot should be legal.  Just because something is legal, it doesn't mean it's appropriate for people suffering from addictions to use.

I don't believe that addicts should drink alcoholic beverages either.  Many will substitute one habit for another.

I, for one, do NOT want to support that or give anybody an excuse to fall off the wagon.

In all my 'anti drug' adventures, chasing 'kids', etc., pot has never been -to me- in the 'drug' category,
(not opening a debate for all the scientific facts proving otherwise. Just don’t see it as a ‘life sucking, sell your Rolex for a hit, addicting’ drug.) cept as you say , can be gateway for the easily swayed, but than...... is a beer the gateway to a bottle of vodka a day habit?? I think alcohol is much more harmful, again, just my opinion. I do understand any recovering addicts worries with it, as with any addiction, staying clear of ANY roads there, and with pot, often people with ‘more’ around.

If I have my choice of my son smoking a joint (all over 23 yrs. old!) or drinking every day.....sorry, I'd rather the pot! Of course my 1st choice is they do NOTHING, EVER, LOL.
At 21 my son was caught with a 'roach' in his sock FROM the ash tray of a friends truck when they got pulled. (he had a ‘spot drug test’ job, wasn't even smoking it than.) and the friend tell's cop "yeah, I have some pot“, (about a 1/4 oz.). Ask my son, he says no. Searches them and takes my son to jail for the roach, gives the other kid a TICKET (who , BTW, had warrants in NC at the time!). My son never in any trouble, no record.  I was flies on Sh*T with that cops supervisor, son out in an hour, but give me a break! Arrested, on his record, 5 point search for a freaking roach and gave the other kid a ticket??? What does this BS do to a kid’s future if he/she later want’s to go into government work, police, etc.??
Cost over $2000. before done with it all. In my book, a JOKE of what REALLY needs done out there!
It is more helpful in chemo, medicinal than many prescribed drugs....so my votes for make it legal!

Ironic, aye….Miss anti-drug here :}

(before ‘someone’ else says it!)

I wish people and government would lighten up about Mary Jane.  It may be considered a "drug" by some, even a "gate-way" seduction for those that are easily swayed.  Eee gadds, my eyes are glazing over.  I believe the stuff should be legal and no ones business.  I really dig weed.  Just me.

You pegged the exact reservation I had about posting to this thread.  The fact is that there are a lot of addicts on this board and I certainly would not want to encourage them to use drugs even one as benign as marijuana.

If you're an addict and reading this...ask your doctor for Zofran and try that before reaching for the bong.

My husband's son kept telling me I should try it... LOL!

But I just never thought Pot did much for folks...

I mean --- honestly I'd rather see someone high on Pot than drunk on Vodka... But still - it just never seemed to do much for the folks that smoked it. I mean - the ones that did when I was growing up were surfers and stoners.

But --- I think if you need something that bad - you should do it.

If pot makes people who are on medication eat --- when otherwise they can't --- I say try to find a legal way to have it.

I don't think I could handle being high... LMAO --- I've already lost half my mind... Wanna keep the rest.

Too bad I am an addict, in recovery, and too afraid that I would 'continue' on to my drug of choice.
who knows though- it IS early, and naseau, ehaustion, lack of appetite and general unwellness are kicking my *** too.

Glad this was posted. Just talking to my sister about this. She is near 8 years off and on chemo and has used pot thru out, nothing works as good for her nausea.
But....now she's back in chemo and nausea is bad and she just doesn't want to be 'stoned' at 8:00 AM (now after 4:20, thats okay, LOL) so she's was asking about the THC pill's. Anyone ever try them? She wants to know if the pill's make you feel stoned?  Curious also as I just don't like pot anymore either, younger days, but not for years now. Not sure about our laws here in Fl. on 'medicinal use' either. Do know I'd get it for her anytime and don't care if illegal or not, she needs it! (have my defense in court all prepared, LOL.)

Yep, it works for nausea and vomiting.  Also, great for picking the appetite up.  Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.  My husband is on alot of chemos and I finally did achieve 12 pounds; he also has his liscense for medical mary jane.  I used it when I needed it sometime through my own tx of HepC.  1b  48wk tx and und at 8 months post.

I am going to be honest and say that I smoked marijuana in order to control the nausea I got from treatment.  It is the only thing that helped me keep those pills and food down.  I didn't smoke it much (not every day) but I did when things were really bad and it worked for me.

I tried the prescription antinausea drugs.  Zofran helped some but it was not near as effective as pot.

Some say marijuana could hinder one reaching svr.  I am svr.

During tx food tasted like Revereware mixed with soap, and I had almost no appetite.  Not eating makes a person very weak, as does tx, so even though I wanted to lose a few pounds (and did), I had to eat - and marijuana helped a lot.

My liver specialist recommended it for nausea and to help increase my appetite. Unfortunately, marijuana doesn't agree with me, so I declined. A recent study here:
