new symptoms

by Taboo40, Apr 04, 2008 01:10PM
I have had HepC for probably 40 years..In 2003 I did the treatment for 48 weeks, it did not clear out the disease, but reduced my viral load to 48000. Just this week i have experienced some swelling in feet ankles and legs during the day, at night it goes away but I think the fluid goes to my abdomen. I have dr appt. but it is a month out. Should I push for sooner appt. ? How critical is this new and only symptom?

Why did your doc allow you  to continue tx if u were not undetectable at 24 wks?  What genotype are u and did you have a liver biopsy?  Did u ever go undetectable on treatment?  Accumulation of fluid in the ankles and abdomen (ascities) is a sign of decompensated liver disease.  You should probably call your docs office, let them know what is going on with you and see if they can fit you in sooner.  Good Luck.

I just want to 2nd sldb's questions and comments. Do you have cirrhosis already? The only thing I would would differ about is... DON'T wait a month to see someone about this! These can be serious symptoms of advanced liver disease as sldb stated. This is NOT something to be taken lightly. Your doctor's office must see you for something this potential serious.

I have cirrhosis myself and had edema in my ankles and feet a few weeks ago which was caused by my PEG/COPEG treatment. Luckily it only lasted about 10 days and my cirrhosis has not compensated as of yet. But my doctors wanted to know and were very concerned at the time.

Please take care of yourself and impress upon your doctor's office how serious this can be.

Best of luck!
Cheers!
Hector
