newbie questions

Hi All.

Wondered if you can recommend a website, or thread right here, where I can bring myself a little bit more up to speed.  I feel I am starting to learn a lot by reading a lot of the threads, and want to know more.  I think a thread with a glossary would be extremely helpful for newbie to Tx such as myself as well.  Here are some of the acronyms I am wondering about …
SVR=?
Hgb=?
Alt=?
Ast=?

I am more than  a little scared too, hearing about all the possible things that CAN and DO go wrong, but find the success and camaraderie enlightening and encouraging.

Thanks,
