post tx thyroid issues

Hello all I have missed the forum so much but trying to get life back in order...I am clear 6 months now and still having tyhroid issues...My numbers are good but can't seem to get the tsh to go back. Is anyone having this post tx? I have an endo, which I am not real happy with but he is slow moving !  He started me on tapazole and I developed a rash,  much like the riba rash , then he stopped it. I did get my "friend" on time this month and its really bad like before my cyroblation...a good sign I hope...sorry to the guys for to much info there;) hugs to you all :) shelly

that sucks. i guesss theres very little one can do about this as it happens except quit treatment. ive gone hypo now at week 57 and might start my taper off a lot sooner  because of it. i wanted to go at least 66 weeks at full dose. is it causing you a fair amount of grief or more like an inconvenience?

You had asked about my thyroid on another thread and was vague in my answer but looking back on my chart, my thyroid (tsh) level was normal prior to tx and at week 8 my tsh levels started to drop at that time I was on 1200mg of riba and 180 and had noticed a bouncing up and down in moods, eating habits and sleeping habits and told the doc about it but he blew it off as sx and also at the time, did not understand it myself and though I was going nuts until it was brought up here on the board. Week 22 test showed thyroid is hyper and was so sick and trying to work was just not getting it. Thinking most of the sx was due to the riba I had dropped it to 1000mg and it helped with some of the sx’s but not all, the hair started thinning, soreness/ tightness behind lower throat and hot flashes, still doc does nothing, close to the brink. Between week 22 and week 32 I was feeling better somewhat, but same symptoms and another test at week 32 reveals the thyroid went hypo and doc put me on synthroid and am still on it. TX had gotten more manageable since then but still have bouts with the eating and hair but is getting better. I know it still bounces for a variety reasons but the tell tail sign, is the soreness behind the lower throat when it starts acting up at least for me because of the sensitivity of my system. I don’t know if this helps but that’s the story.

I was also not happy hearing this might return to normal after TX.

Shelly,

Sorry about the thyroid problem.  that's one SX i haven't had (yet).  Hopefully it will calm down the farther away from tx you get.

CW,

I've been wanting to ask about your tapering off schedule but have been so numb and braindead from UTI and other stuff.

I know you probably posted this info on the other side but i don't know where.

We're both at #58.  What is your tapering off plan?

Good luck with the thyroid problem.

Jas,

Reading about your thyroid makes me even more thankful i don't have that problem.  How much longer for you?

ps - didya hear that Nicole Ritchie named her baby after me?  But she spelled it wrong

ponyshel,
forgot to ask, hows the rest of the recovery going? since interferon has been used so
much over the years for all kinds of problems they are familiar with its effect on the thyroid.  the little bit that ive read about it indicates that the majority of cases
resolve themselves. im not sure how long it takes so maybe like wyn says
yours could straighten out. nygirl says the recovery as noted by the docs and the studies is over optomistic and many thyroid problems do not recover.

geterdone,
hopefully your thyroid will recover as well on its own. youve had to pay
a pretty high price for this dysfunction, but it appearrs that the thyroid can
sometimes be hard to control.

wyn,
originally i was going to start taper off at 66 and end at 72 at zero dose.
because of this thyroid deal i pushed it sooner 6 weeks,
start taper off at 60 and reach zero dose by 68. . i am hoping to escape permanent thyroid problems as they didnt start until recently. you have been getting
your share of problems lately and i know from how i feel that you must be burned to a crisp by now. we are in the home stretch, i am ambivalent about quitting sooner
but not too bad.

Glad to hear your SVR at 6 mos post. That sure is promising.   Here you had to ask about the weight loss on my thread.   Well today feeling really bloated and just went in and weighed myself.. OMG.. I must have gained 5 lbs today.. How the heck ????

Maybe its just fluid retention.. LOL   I hope you continue to be SVR forever..   I will keep you posted and be following you, so keep in touch.

i just got caught up on your info.  i wouldnt restart inf without a vl the day before.
i wouldnt restart unless you are going to put in quite few more weeks of full dose.
my doc seems to
agree with the idea that a longer treatment period is the biggest factor for svr.
(unless you are rvr, and even then i believe it helps even thought the studies dont prove this.)
