If you are on medication for HCV, it is not recommended that you tan - you need to stay out of the sun.

It summer now isn't it. Well not technically but it's been warm around the country.
Sure go wild! Get that glow while you can!
When on treatment expect to be very pale and pasty. (Besides the meds don't normally have you day dreamin about the beach, surfin' and Beach Boy songs. At least mine didn't).

interferon & ribavirin = NO sun
No tanning! Burning will happen. The meds cause increased sensitivity to sun.
Treatment and bikinis don't mix. Especially with those injection bruises, dry skin and riba rash! LOL

Hi, I can tell you first hand be very very careful being in the sun while on tx. I am Italian, olive skined and never burned in my life. While on tx last summer (now 9 mnths post) I was on the beach, had sun block on and was pretty much covered up. Any area on my body that was exposed was fried. I even blistered. I suffered terribly. Nothing is the same when on tx.  Good luck to you.  Merlino

I ditto my dear friend above.  I too am Italian and have never really burned but the ten minutes I was in the tanning booth gave me the worst experience of my life and I now am getting a skin check every year.

Do you know that dermatologists are now advising that people be skin checked every six months?  That is how dangerous the sun and exposure to it really is.

I wish to God I had not tanned as much as I did earlier.  The new tanning lotions and tanning sprays work every bit as well and are 100% safe.

As long as you are NOT on treatment, go and enjoy yourself in the sun. If you stay in the sun for long, there are some good organic natural sun lotions and sun blocks. The conventional ones have quite a lot of toxins in them, so I personally avoid them.

Once on treatment, you need to avoid the sun like a vampire.... :-)

Each person's skin is different.  I have a background that is Irish/Icelandic and I've always fried my whole life.  I've had several skin cancers removed, not fun having to be disfigured just to 'try to get a tan'.  So, for me, personally, I'll pass on that.  But, on the other hand if a person's skin has always tolerated the sun and has never had any skin cancers, go at your own risk - if you're not on TX.  I most hardily advise against the sun while on treatment.  BTW - I live in FL., so it's sort of weird feeling for me to have to walk around being a pale face, but that's just the way it is.  I've been a Florida gal my whole entire life from age 2 weeks onward and I'm 47 now.  So...

Yeah -- I was gonna say --- On TX --- you're not gonna wanna be in the sun...

You'll be all squinty eyed --- your canine teeth kinda grow longer --- and your nails become yellowed... And you drool a lot... Vampire-ish-y...

And you will howl at the moon for some unknown reason...

And you won't be able to sleep... Or you'll sleep around the clock...

Oh --- and if you're a girl --- you'll grow goat hairs on your chin (that's probably the only true thing I wrote in this whole thing except ya won't like the sun much on TX)

*GRIN*

If you normally go out in the sun - enjoy it prior to TX'ing.

To: Jergen's.....
Jergen's has a body lotion out that has a tanner lotion mixed into it.  Not only will you begin to get some color but will help to keep you moisturized as well.  It helps with the dry skin and it doesn't leaves streaks either.....it's good.......you can get it at Walgreens, any pharmacy, or look for it down the beauty/cosmetic aisle in your local grocery store......Hope that this helps.  I know that my skin dry out when I did treatment and this was what I used to help with that.....apply it right after showering. Until then.......
