went to dr

went to see fam dr yest and I am on another round of anti's for upper resp. I haven't been able to walk much on my right foot due to swelling and knot on ankle, painful. He set me for ultrasound to r/o poss dvt. He will call me this am to let me know but did not hear or see any abnormal when they did ultrasound. Really weird, he thinks so to since no trauma to foot.
Is there anything anyone could think it could be??
It is bad after sleeping all night then when I start to walk on it ,it seems to get a little better. My foot is swollen as well as my ankle and I get tingling sensation up calf.
hangin in there, week 55/72 and still here.thanks :)shelly

My husband has knots that have came up on both legs about 2 months ago.  The left outside about 2 inches above ankle, right inside about 3 inches above ankle.  They are soft but don't move....doctor is puzzled...doesn't think blood clots, thought infection but has been on strong anti's for almost 2 weeks & still nothing has changed.  All tests have been negative.  Is this similar to what you have been having?  We are at a loss of what is going on with him...it is painful and affecting his work???

Did they do a venous ultrasound of the calf? I have never heard of a heel spur causing that much swelling in the foot. Not that it can't happen, just never heard of it.
You said when you walk it feels better. Did he test your calf by squeezing it to see if you had a painful reaction? How much do you walk a day? And finally, what all meds are you on? Just trying to get more info, to make my guess!

rosebud, I do have a lower back problem, 2 bad discs l4 and 5..lumbar I did get injections for this before tx. One disc is bulged the other leaking. fun. I never have been to chiro always thinking they were quacks however; I do here alot of positive feedback about them. Perhaps I will stop being so skeptical and try it. thanks so much. :)shelly

when my problems first began my ankles would swell (this was w/i a week of purchasing new shoes huge mistake usually buy cross trainers and bought nike walking shoes cause i liked how they looked.)

my ankles swelled , my knees began to hurt.  w/i a few weeks when i took my shoes off the position of my feet were different the right foot leaned right i was pretty much walking on the side of my foot and could do nothing to keep it straight that is where they gave the shots on instep and back of heel.  the other foot seemed to want to compensate for the change of the right foot, it leaned inward so my instep was caved in. if my feet were wax it actually looked like they were melting they leaned so oddly.  this shift of body parts affected every (EVERY) joint in my body knees, hips shoulders, elbows, wrists..

like i said it was actually in my lower back. after the massage and chiro some years later (last year) yoga helped me regain strength in my arches which had gone flat through this whole ordeal. everything back to normal. i am most grateful for my own persistance in finding a solution, who knows where things would be had i not. but i imagine full disability.

i had similar experience years ago. actually walked crooked for 3 yrs.(walked leaning forward with limp felt like quasimoto..it happened very suddenly doctors didn't know cause, sent me to podiatrist, xrays were inconclusive though they thought initially it also could be heal spur.  they gave 2 cortisone shots in ankle instep and behind. this relieved pain, they had me fit for inserts these actually made my knees hurt. everyone shook their heads and didn't know what caused it. i  also had numbness in my feet both, and hands (both) - i had been given low doses of gabapentin for this which helped. after all above went to different doctor who had me take shoe off and said show me where the pain is. i pointed to several locations, she said well if you don't tell me where it is how can i help you.  i said i did, that is where it hurts. that visit was inconclusive too.

i began to spend money on myself to find another cure, massage therapy and several different chiropractors.  finally found the right chiropractor but both were needed..  the problem was really in my lower back. and upper back for numbness in hands. even when i found the right chiropractor it took almost a year before he actually found the root of the problem was in my lower back, because the whole time this whole thing began - my focus and everyone elses was on "my crooked feet"  (to straighten my sacralilliac (lower back) he had me lay face down and pressed on differen parts of my buttocks, i could actually feel the bones shift. i stood up straight for the first time in 3 yrs)

no swelling, tingling, or numbness. no shoe inserts, or cortisone or meds.  no longer walk like  quasimoto. (still have occassional pain in hips) the first time i stood from his table and my feet were straight i said "your an angel from god" i had walked crooked for 3 years. it took several months of regular adjustments to keep the feet straight. i had to redevelop muscles (calves were kind of twisty and began to atrophy - three years crooked)  this whole ordeal may have been caused by change of shoes during a time when i was running  and may have changed the position of my foot. and/or i do remember falling when i was running (tripped on sidewalk) and this could have thrown my back out.

for a while when i would be driving and see other people walking crooked like i did i wonder if they could walk straight..if they had tried something different.

Gout is a very painful type of arthritis in the big toe. You can't even wear a shoe when it's inflamed. Only the weathly in Europe used to get it because of all the rich food they ate. The poor who ate potatoes, rice, etc. didn't get it. They called it the wealthy man's disease.

he called and said it is probably heel spur ? I am to see podiatrist. He suggested exercises and inserts for shoes. I can't afford to go to pod. right now so I will wait to see if it clears up I guess. what are symptoms of gout?
