My name is Catherine with a C...ha ha.  Anyway, I have been searching desperately for an herbal alternative to interferron and ribovarin...spell check.
I have for the past 2 months been taking max doses of milk thistle, drinking a Detox tea and taking a mega multi/min.  More recently I've added, lecithin, astragulas, licorice tea, CQ-10, L-cysteine,L-methionine and a higher dose of vitamin C to my regimen.  I have not told my health care provider because he did not seem to know very much about herbs, so I set out to find out myself.  My hope being that when I go for my next blood test there may be a change in the "numbers".  ALT 78, AST 57, GGTP 174.    I'm also very curious about these numbers.  Are they very high, what do they mean?  I have heard that there is no way to tell the level of damage to my liver without a biopsy, but my health care provider says he would rather not do one and just start me on the treatment.  It all scares me, but the worst part is, I honestly have only had the flu twice in my ( I thought it was 3 but one turned out to be Hep A) and I haven't had a cold in probably about 10 years.  All around me seem to get sick all the  time, and I rarely if ever do.  I have always believed I had somewhat of an over active immune system.  So why would I want to make myself sick, with potentially life long side effects by taking a drug that may or may not cure me without trying something else first.  I have a friend on interferon/ribovarin and she is VERY sick, I just cant do it.  I know herbs are not recommended by FDA, but what about other treatments working along side of more holistic remedies?
One more question:  Is interferron a substance created in body or a chemical?
