Elevated Levels-Mean what?

My SGOT has been elevated slightly for the last couple of years.  Now my SGPT is elevated.  SGPT is at 50 and was 16 the time before.  The SGOT is 64 and max in the normal range is 37.  It was 46 the time before the last test.  What does that indicate?  My physician has scheduled a Hep-B and C test along with a sonogram with a specialist.

I did not mention that I had begun taking Tylenol-Arthritis formula for about a month prior to the blood work.  Also, I take 10 mg. Paxil and 30 mg of Procardia for my blood pressure regulation.

Dear Rod:
I appreciated hearing from you and receiving your question.  I always want to be as helpful as I can but an elevated SGOT and SGPT can be caused by a wide array of liver diseases.  If your SGOT and SGPT have been elevated for several years, it certainly means that you should be evaluated for different causes of chronic liver disease.  It is also possible that there is little or nothing wrong with your liver as well.
I can say that common causes of liver enzyme abnormalities in this country are the use of alcohol, viral hepatitis (hepatitis A or B or C), medications, fatty infiltration of the liver (
