Hepatitus C and Kissing?

Posted by JL on May 13, 1999 at 09:46:48
I have recently begun dating someone who has reason to believe that he may have contracted the Hepatitus (hepatitis) C virus - though it seems doubtful from what I've read.  In any case,  he   will be getting tested for this soon.
In the meantime, we want to be safe.  I am aware that sexual intercourse without condoms involves a risk.  But what about kissing?  I know it is unsafe to share toothbrushes ... and from time to time my gums bleed slightly when brushing or flossing.  If this were also true for him, does that really mean that contagion could happen from kissing?
Thanks.

Dear JL:
I enjoyed your question.  Questions about transmission of hepatitis C are obviously of enormous interest to many MedHelp participants and I
