I have bone loss,..I read a study about Interferon causing this,...

I was transfused HepC during my Hysterectomy in 1980 at age 29. I have been on Harmone Replacement Therapy [HRT] since that time. I had a bone scan approx. 1988,..then in 1992 had 4 mos of Interferon. I just returned from the Mayo Clinic, where I found out I only have 8% bone mass in my lower lumbar,..and 47% in my hip. I asked the Researcher/Doctor at Mayo who I just saw,..If it could have been from the Interferon..that I had read an article regarding this. He said he had read that study,..and my bone loss could indeed have been from the Interferon. He wants me to go on the Combo treatment now..I'm worried about further bone loss,..I'm only 48. He said he would still put me on Interferon and then treat me with Bone building meds. I mentioned I had read those bone building meds were hard on the liver,..he said "yes...but I would still treat you with the Combination Therapy".
I'm very confused. I'm also interested in finding this article. Can you guide me to it?? My Calcium levels were at the high normal range at Mayo 8.9 - 10.1 [I was 10.1, though I've now added more Calcium].
I've gone back on every herb I had stopped taking in August of 1998. Then my levels were only 5 - 10 pts above normal. My PCR was 890,000. Now, my liver functions have gone extremely high..and my PCR is 42.6 million. [AST = 300, ALT = 370, ALK PHOS = 453]
IF my Liver functions lower dramatically as well as my PCR/RNA/DNA,..then I don't think I will retry the Interferon Treatment/Combo. Are you studying/doing trials re: herbal remedies?? Sorry multiple questions,..but I'm in shock here. Thanks, Mary Anna
