Iron

I'm a nephrology nurse and anemia manager in chronic hemodialysis center.  When my patients have an increase in WBC (infection) the Fe Sat% decreases and the Ferritin increase, supposedly the bodies defense to eliminate iron from the bacteria
to decrease reproduction of the bacteria cells.
My question is will this effect happen with hepatitis c virus? Does the body identify hepatitis c as an infection? If so, then why would there be a problem with iron overload?
