Treatment symptoms

I am currently in my 5th week of the Interferon/Ribivarin treatment.  Overall I am tolerating it well.  However, I have had a unrelenting headache from day one.  My doctor, a gastroenterologist, has told me to use Tylenol, which I have done to no avail.  Today I went to see him, concerned that my success with the treatment was in jeopardy - that my endurance was reaching its limits.  I have never had pain that did not let up after a few days and my sympathy has grown for those that do. My doctor told me that he "can't" prescribe pain medication.  He did however prescribe Darvocet which the pharmacist tells me is a pain medicine, albeit an ineffective one.  He also prescribed Trazodone which the pharmacist says is an anti-depressant.  The pharmacist did not think much of either of these medications.  So now I am confused.  I am not depressed though I find myself irritable and I am not having trouble sleeping.  The only real problem I am having is this headache.  My doctor tells me that none of his 75 hep c patients in treatment have a persistent headache and that maybe I should discontinue treatment.  Is this true?  Should I take these medications?  I feel a bit like I am twisting in the wind.  This is not a needed addition to all the treatment symptoms. As you might guess, my doctor's best suit is not compassion.  I would appreciate any thoughts you have.
