My mom has Hepititis (hepatitis) C, and is thinking of getting the Interferon treatment, but only if she can give my brother a kidney.... Is it possible? If you need more info or details, my profile explains a lot. Or just ask. Thank you.

Hiya Rosegoin - nice to meetcha.

I'm no doctor - but I read your question and read your profile and it just broke my heart.... I didn't want you to think that no one was responding to you.

OK - your brother needs a kidney?

With all of your mother's issues - I don't know if she would be able to give him a kidney...

Wow! Your family has been through a lot. It's amazing that you --- at 14 years of age --- have gone through all of this with them... You're definetely a VERY SMART --- VERY STRONG 14 year old.

With HepC --- you cannot donate a lot of things --- being detectable.

Taking the INF treatment is completely up to your mother --- she may NOT be able to do it because of the current issues in her life....

However - if her doctors think she can --- she must decide whether she wants to go through all of this.

You can help her decide --- whether she can give her kidney to your brother or not --- by becoming educated more on Hepatitis C.

Janis and Friends is a very good website to start off...

Read through that one.

I don't think your mother can give her kidney to anyone right now --- with a detectable viral load of HepC.

So --- taking the treatment may allow her to do so --- BUT I AM NOT SURE ON THAT --- OK?

Please be strong - and thank you for coming in here to talk about your issues - I'm amazed at how knowledgeable you are.

Dr. D will be around to answer your questions as soon as possible.
