positive x 2 for hep c antibody

positive x 2 for hep c antibody

I am still anxiously waiting for my result since June 18.   The blood bank tested positive for anti HCV antibodies. However, 3 days later I received a letter from the blood bank stating that it was probably a false positive and it is unlikely that I was infected. Per letter, the RIBA was negative and  HIV/HCV NAT was also negative.
My OB GYN did another testing which states that I remain reactive for anti HCV antibodies but my liver is normal; She did a quantitave PCR which states non detected.  I saw a gastroentrologist on 6/30.   I brought blood bank result and the lab result ordered by my OB GYN.  The gastronenterogist sounded certain and  immediately mentioned that Iam  false positive and ordered a qualitative PCR.  The meeting was so quick because he was certain I am false positive. I was told that the qualitative PCR would take another 2 weeks wait.  What is the reason for having a positive result for anti HCV antibodies  on 2 separate blood tests?    I am also anxiously waiting for the qualitative PCR result.  My fibroid surgery is postponed pending gastroenterologist clearance.

Some people just pop up with false positive HCV antibodies. Probably  a natural protein in your body gives the false + reading. Nothing to worry about other than you can never give blood anyway! No reason yet found scientifically why this happens.  Good luck with your surgery!
