Can a hernia get getter?

I haven't any idea about hernias but I just had 3 MRIs a couple months ago and my doctors found that I have a hernia between 2 vertebrae in my neck, upper back, and in my lower back. I was told I wont need surgery; as of right now anyway. My doctors think I got hernias from my accident. I was in a train/car accident 5 years ago, New Years Day. I was front seat passenger as a train hit my side of the car, driving across a railroad crossing. I cant remember too much because I have a brain injury from it. I'm only bringing this up because i'm wondering if I now have 3 hernias from the injuries I now have or if i'm not sitting and walking right. I broke a lower vertibrae in mny back and 7 ribs. Would breaking ribs have anything to do with a hernia? My doctors said there isn't anything really to do and having pain from severe arthritis and chronic insomnia, really keeps me up at night. I know I should try to think the pain away but i'm trying to quit smoking and it is really hard to anything. Can a hernia go away on it's own? I can't take pain meds the rest of my like and I am excersizing the most I can but sometimes I either black out or something goes numb. I'm finally sleeping better so i'm having less occurances but the pain feels worse. I've talked to a couple of my doctors but they all say to feel better about myself, I have to think it. Thats not doinf the trick and how long will i have to wait until it gets better? ...if it ever does that is. Sorry if this is a bit long, just hoping for any possible answer.

Hello and good you are doing well.

I suppose you are referring to herniation of the disc between the vertebral bodies. This can cause compression on the adjoining nerves and symptoms of pain. The treatment is to remove the compression. You have to discuss the best treatment option with a neurologist, which can range from medication to physiotherapy to traction, cervical collars or even surgery.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
