Genital Herpes Culture came back Negative

I have been getting these sores on my penis since November. Sometimes they hurt, and they are very tender. It tends to come in the same spot, then the pain just goes away but the sores remain til they just fade away. Also the sores have never crusted or scabbed over like a cold sore would on your mouth. I also have had no penile discharge One weekend it itched really bad, then it went from itching to hurting really bad and teh sores looked very wet and the sores were sticking to my underwear. I have seen 2 doctors, one being a infectious disease dr . I have been tested for syphillis (syphilis), herpes and all the blood test come back negative. I did get a blood test that said i had herpes 1 but not 2 but i hear that blood test are not very accurate. I got a culture of one of the sores last week, a few days before the sores were sticking to my underwear and it hurt very bad, th next day i went in to the dr and he said it wasnt "weeping" but he rubbed the swab over the sore when it was very tender and it hurt, a week later he said it was negative, they also retested me for syphillis (syphilis) which was negative as well., i been taking acyclovir, 3 x a day and he also gave me medication for chancroid i think thats how it spelled. at this point i have no clue what it is. He also told me to put jock itch cream on it because after looking at it he said he didnt know what it was. I have a pic of it as well

If you read our read before posting post on this forum you'll see that we don't want to see any pictures!

A lesion culture isn't going to do much if you are taking acyclovir or if the lesions have been there more than 48 hours.  The rate of false negatives is pretty high.

At this point if things aren't better within the next week, follow up on this with a dermatologist.  The frequency of your symptoms would be unusual even for genital herpes but you could have herpes and something further complicating it like a staph infection or something.  You can repeat your herpes igg blood test in february to see if it shows anything different then.
