Time and transmission

I currently have a cold sore in my lips, certainly HSV-1. I woke up with it today, and immediately started treatment with topical Aciclovir. The questions:

1 - How long does it take for the infection to vanish?

2 - After the superficial lesion vanishes, how long does it takes for the area to stop being contagious? Simply, how long do I have to wait to kiss my girlfriend?

If this is a newly acquired hsv1 oral infection it can take a few weeks until it heals :(  If this is just a reoccurrence then it takes about a week to 10 days.  Topical acyclovir helps to speed healing by about 2 days.

do you know if your gf has hsv1 or not?

If your gf doesn't have hsv1, wait until the skin has returned to normal.
