1 or 2

I just went to my dr and was recently told I have HSV but they didnt tell me what kind.  The cold sore was in my mouth.  This was my initial outbreak.  My gums became swollen, the swollen sorethroat, slight fever.  They provided acyclovir and it went away.  The told me to take Lysine once a day to help control it.  My question is because it was in my mouth does this make it HSV 1, the cold sore kind?

well no need for a blood test if you had a lesion culture. You can call and see if it was hsv1 or hsv2 but odds are it was hsv1.

It's also likely a newly acquired infection if you have symptoms inside the mouth as you described so a blood test probably won't be + for a few weeks yet.

do you have a regular partner? Can they recall cold sores? have they ever been tested for herpes?

They did the little tongue scrap.  I am going up there now to get my lab results so I know the actual numbers.  The first doctor I saw told me it looked like herpes gingivostomatit??s.

lysine doesn't really work for oral herpes.  Taking lysine once a day, does nothing for herpes at all.  Sorry to hear that your doctor is so misinformed :(

Did they do any testing for hsv or just a visual diagnosis that this was herpes?

Most likely this is HSV-1.  HSV-1 occurs primarily in the oral area.  However, HSV-2 can occur on the face but is far more common in the genital area.  The fact that your doctor did not specify a type of HSV is indicative that is a normal cold sore, meaning HSV-1.
