I have been tested positive for HSV-1 and negative for HSV-2, a few weeks ago, but have never had any oral symptoms. Now I am starting to see some symptoms on my vagina. I can recall a few possible minor genital symptoms in the past, but never been diagnosed in the past. But this time around it seems like clear symptoms of genital herpes. Is it possible that my first outbreak is genital, even though I've never had any oral outbreaks? If my partner has also been tested negative for HSV-2, is it possible that he could have somehow passed my HSV-1 to my genitals?
You should go see your provider today or tomorrow and have these genital symptoms looked at. don't assume herpes.
As for your + hsv1 blood test result - even though you don't recall ever having any obvious cold sores - it's not surprising that you tested +. About 60% of adults in the US are infected with hsv1 orally whether they know it or not. It just means you are adorable enough to get kissed and likely picked up hsv1 orally along the way from all that smooching :D
Even though a blood test only tells you what you have, not where you have it. Since up until now you've never noticed any symptoms either orally or genitally - statistically it's far more likely to be an oral hsv1 infection than a genital one.
I went to the doctor today, and she couldn't tell just by looking at it if it was a sign of genital herpes. Which I am wondering if it is a good sign, since it wasn't a "classic" herpes symptom?? Or else she could have at least told me that it "looked like" herpes symptoms.
She took a cultural, and it will take a few weeks to get the result back. But she said that it was unlikely that it would be genital herpes from being positive to HSV1. Which now I am confused, because I have read that being positive to HSV1 means that even if I never really had an oral outbreaks, there is a possibility that my first outbreak I could have it genitally??
I also could not get blood tested, since I was already tested a few weeks back and the results would be the same. My partner has says he has been tested in the past, and everything has been negative. If that is true, could I have passed on the HSV-1 orally, then he passed it back to me genitally? (Even though I never had oral symptoms?)
If your partner was tested for herpes at least 3 months after his last partner before you - then ask him to get a copy of his test results. Chances are good that they didn't include a herpes test anyways but he can check and find out.
If he's had other partners since he was last tested then he needs to just to get tested now for herpes to see what his status is.
My partner is negative for both HSV1 and HSV-2, so now my question is, how likely is it that I can pass on HSV-1 to him, if I've never had any oral symptoms? At this point, it surprises me that he is negative for HSV-1, but it would be difficult not to pass it on, as I feel it would easily be transmitted orally? And does that mean that oral sex
You two need to discuss this to see if you feel the risk of transmitting your hsv1 oral infection to his genital area is worth utilizing barrier protection or not when you perform oral sex
on him. You will always be more likely to transmit your hsv1 oral infection to his oral area thru kissing him than you will be to transmit it to his genital area thru oral sex
Thanks for the comments,
I did get my culture, and other test results back, and they all came out negative. But she did not test for yeast and bacterial infections.., which is annoying because I didn't know the possibility about those, and the doctor only tested for herpes, ghonorrhea, and chlamydia. But I have had yeast infections in the past, and I feel like I am not experiencing the same symptoms. Because the sores symptoms I have now, is in one specific area, an inflammation of my left outer labia, and a little redness next to that. The yeast infections I have had in the past was burning and itching
basically everywhere, including inside, so I doubt it is an yeast infection.
Are there any other specific bacterial infections other than Bacterial Vaginosis? It may be a possibility that it could be that, but I didn't ready anywhere that the symptoms could include any kind of bumps, or sores.
Also should I not completely rule out genital herpes, as it seems there are many cases of false negatives, even though this is my 2nd culture, and my blood test for hsv-2 was negative?
You need to go see a provider who will do a proper exam and basic testing for you. These symptoms have been going on for too long.
Yes it could still be a yeast infection - different kinds of fungus present differently. Just because it doesn't feel like the kind of yeast infections you had in the past doesn't mean that it's not one now. Same with it doesn't mean it's not a bacterial infection either. Or even something completely unrelated which is why a further work up is in order.
, as it was right at the opening. Now, I have an additional issue- She has found a few bumps that she diagnosed as Molloscum Contagiosum, but is not related to the first outbreak I had. She gave me a cream that is used also for warts.
Wondering if you can answer this although it is not related to herpes- I know that the molloscum is very contagious, as it is spread easily just by skin to skin contact. But once all the bumps are gone, is it still possible to spread this? My dr. did not seem at all knowledgable about molloscum, so I will be going to a second doctor next week.
