1year. 2 cold sores. no conclusive igg results???

I'm very confused.

6/2010 - Blood work. HSV Igm = positive; HSV Igg = negative
8/2010 - Cold sore outbreak on the left side of my chin conclusive with hsv outbreak stages
8/2010 - Blood work. unchanged
2/2011 - Second out break in same area. pre-symptoms including nerve tingling. i apply zovirax and take supplements. and infection does not go past the bumps stage
3/2011 - Blood work. unchanged.

So i'm really confused now. I know i have HSV, i'm not sure which kind (most likely HSV1 because the frequency is more than once a year based on http://www.herpes.com/hsv1-2.html)

But why won't my herps show up in the damn igg, its been almost a year. Am i fighting it? or is this a sign that i'm loosing the fight? Or is all this **** so inconclusive that it doesn't matter...

you very well might be or it could be something else. get the next recurrence cultured and go from there.

correct, don't treat your next ob at all with anything and be seen within 48 hours of it beginning for a lesion culture.   if you want answers, it's the best way to get them.

you have to be infected in order to create antibodies against herpes hence why I said it misses 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections.

I am not sure what you mean by your first statement, i was under the impression that the hsv igg and igm blood test look for antibodies and not the infection itself.

and in your second statement are you referring to a viral culture swab? because i have thought about getting it done but decided not to because it would require me to stop using the antiviral cream to allow the infection to reach the surface.

I guess i'm just asking the world if any one has had a similar experience of outbreaks with inconclusive blood results.

even the best blood tests still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections. at this point, being seen within 48 hours of the appearance of your symptoms would be the best course of action.
