2 part question about herpes transmission?

Hello, I have a 2 part question about herpes transmission. the first question is this: Can one person with Herpes of the mouth (cold sores) spread herpes to another person by kissing their stomach? Can the virus spread from the person's skin on their stomach down to their genitals (since it is below the stomach) ?

the second question is : Can a person with herpes of the mouth (cold sores around the mouth) infect their own genitals by touching their mouth with their hand and then shortly after that, touching their own genitals ?

How long can herpes stay infectious on a pair of worn underwear laying on the floor?

it's very low risk of transmitting the virus to other body parts in general. sucking on their fingers can transmit hsv1 to their hands ( herpes whitlow ) but even that doesn't occur very often.

So your saying even if children get cold sores from being kissed by their parents, even during the initial infection stage right after they first get it, it's not a risk for them giving themselves genital herpes? How big is the risk exactly for infecting themselves in the primary stage? Because kids always touch their face and mouth and then touch their genitals. Sorry if i am repeating myself but I just want to clarify

well auto transmission of the virus doesn't occur very often in general and when it does, it's typically during the initial infection.  usually it's genital to hand transmission, not oral to genital or vice versa.

If its not transmitted hand to genital, then how does self-inoculation occur? I am confused.

So you are saying that herpes is not transmitted hand-to-genital, correct?

no place offers free testing that I know of.

if the provider puts in the right reason for testing for herpes, it's covered by insurance. don't hesitate to call your insurance to ask questions for more info.

small children are more vulnerable to herpes infections than adults are due to their immature immune system. kissing a child on the face can infect them with oral herpes more easily than it does an adult.  no documented cases that I'm aware of of children transmitting their oral herpes to their genitals.  It would need to happen when they are newly infected and pretty much be the perfect conditions for it to happen anyways.

Hi grace,

I went to get the testing and they said they dont usually do the testing and my insurance might not cover it? is there a place I can go for free?

something else i wanted to ask you, i have heard that sometimes children can contract cold sores from being kissed from family members with herpes. Will a kiss on the cheek give a child herpes? And if so, kids are always touching their faces and putting their hands on their face/mouth , when they get potty trained and start exploring themselves and learning how to wipe can they spread it to their genitals? Because I read that this is possible. Am i getting misinformation? just wanted to clarify. thanks for your help

did you and your partner get the testing I recommended in your previous post?

you can transmit oral herpes to the abdominal area but it's fairly low risk in general.   It depends where on the abdomen the infection occurs as to what nerve group it infects.

no, you won't give yourself herpes like that.
