3.49 on IgG HSV2 test could this be false positive?
After reading all of the posts and searching the internet, I am still so confused. I have never had any symptoms of herpes...have not had any issues that could be confused with genital herpes, i.e. urinary tract, etc. Found out my husband may have been fooling around, and went to the Doc to be tested.
Was shocked when she told me I had genital herpes. After receiving that news, I have tried to research all the testing, etc.
Is is possible that my positive 3.49 on the HSV 2 IgG test, was a "false" positive? I have read the IgM tests are not good...but the lab did this anyway, and it was negative. I have read that if the IgG test is under 3.50 that it is possible that I am actually negative. I have seen posts regarding 2 other tests...Biokit and Western Blot. Should I have these tests ran, and if they are negative, I am safe
Hopefully I am replying correctly...never done this before. I do need the peace of mind...but also wanted to see if I am being unrealistic that my positive 3.49 on the LgG test is wrong. Is it common
to have that "high" of a low positive, and have another test done and it is confirmed that you really are "negative"? What was very confusing to me was the LgM test was negative.
Thanks again, Grace. I asked for the WB to be ran, but apparently Quest Diagnostics does not do that test. I'm not sure what the name of the test is they are using, but they say it is to rule out a false positive for the HSV2 from my original test. I am having that test done today....so hopefully I am in the lucky group that had a false positive....waiting on pins and needles now. :)
Grace, I got a hold of my doc's lab today, and gave her the #34534 number. She said it wasn't in their book..and gave the number to Quest. I called them and they are saying that it is no longer a valid test number. The test they are running is #17171...I have no idea what the name of the test is. Should I call to other labs..LabCorp, etc., to see if they do the WB test? Thanks again for all of the information.
quest's website still has 34534 coming up as the herpes WB . Terri hasn't mentioned them changing the number either and she orders them regularly all over the US for her online patients.
also your doctor can contact the U of washington, have the WB kit sent to his office and send it himself too.
Thanks, Grace. Just to make sure I understand, the inhibition assay test will probably give the same results that my IgG test did? Should I wait to see what the results are from it, before asking the doctor to have the WB kit sent to his office? Quest only does these tests on Wednesdays...so I want know anything until late next week.
Hi Grace. I got the results from the inhibition assay test...for HSV2. All it says is that I am positive. No numbers, etc. I assume that now I need to get either the Western Blot or the Biokit/Surevue test. I have had a hard time finding anyone who will perform these tests. I did contact a local clinic and they are going to order the Biokit/Surevue kit...
My question is, with the my test results in my earlier posts (3.49 HVS2), and a "positive" for the inhibition assay test, if the Biokit test is "negative", can I be sure that I really am negative? As I said in my previous posts, I have had no symptoms and only had the testing done because of fears
I consulted with someone more familiar with the inhibition assay than I am and was told that most likely you really do have hsv2. It's up to you if you want to do another confirmatory test or not.
