I have read about a study that said in a relationship where one person is infected with hvs2 and the other is not and they 1) avoided sex during outbreaks 2) didn't use condoms and 3) didn't use suppressant medicine, after one year of having sex multiple times per week 4% of men contracted hsv2 and 10% of women. My question is if only 4-10% contracted the virus after 100+ encounters with an infected person how do 1 in 4 people have hsv2? I would think it would be around 1 in 10. Is it possibly that the people in the study knew they were infected and recognized the outbreaks for what they were and 90% of people don't know that they are infected and therefore don't recognize when they are having an outbreak and don't abstain from sex at that time? Regardless the numbers from the study don't make sense with the 1 in 4 numbers to me.
