Accuracy of herpes 2 results

I had an STD screening done as part of a annual gyno-check up, not because I had symptoms 11/07.
HSV 1 IGG Herpeselect AB   > 5.00 positive
HSV 2 IGG Herpeselect AB  0.67  negative

That's okay I had gotten cold sores on my mouth since I was a child.

Then 5/09 went for another annual gyno-check up and did STD screening again; although really didn't think about why when testing was ordered because already with same boyfriend for almost 4 years and no symptoms, but went anyway.

HSV 1 IGG Herpeselect AB    4.75  positive
HSV 2  IGG Herpeselect AB   1.22  positive

I was shocked!  My dr said that since type 2 showed up so low,  this result could be inaccurate, so I went for a different test 6/04.
HSV 2 IGG Herpeselect AB 1.61 positive    Index 0.00-0.89
HSV 2 Inhibition Elisa   positive

When I heard these results I was beside myself. My boyfriend and I both thought that the second test would have come back negative, because both never having symptoms and not having been with anyone else in the past 4 years seems very odd. My dr said well your boyfriend gave it to you, he just doesn't know he has it, like many people.  So  he went  to Planned Parenthood to get tested and it came back positive for type 1 and negative for type 2.  I don't know which test they gave him yet.

What I would like to know is how did I get it?  It was obviously through a non-sexual experience.  Could it have been on vacation last summer from a towel accidentally?  In addition I'm paraniod that my child is going to get it because I got it so easily non-sexually. Unfortunately she still likes to sleep in my bed...which since I got the results I'm not letting her anymore. I'm only using a towel once and bleaching everything to death, I don't let them hang to dry in the bathroom anymore, and I'm cleaning the toilet seat everytime I'm done using it. In addition to not sleeping very well at night, now any itch I have down there I won't even touch.  But no outbreak yet, thank god! Could the second test be a false positive since the score was so low and because I know for sure I have type 1? Also my dermatologist gave me Valtrex to take back in 5/06 for the cold sores I usually get on my mouth. I take them whenever my lip feels itchy; could the Valtrex make the type 2 test come back positive...does Valtrex help make antibodies for both viruses?

I'm very confused given the circumstances and I'm driving my boyfriend nuts, because I want to know how I got it.
Help!

Hi,
I just got found out yesterday that I tested positive for HSV 2. My results were HSV 2 IGG type specific  AB >5.00 Index and HSV 1 IGG type specific AB 5.00 tells her that I have had it for a while. I called back to ask her what "for awhile" means but she wan't there. The person that answered the phone tried to explain it to but she didn't sound too sure of herself. I got re-tested as my doctor's office and now I'm just waiting for the results. I think that if the test for herpes were included in the standard std tests it would be easier to figure out where you got the disease. All this time, I thought I had been getting tested for. I thought that when I said "everything" that meant "everything" including herpes.

I hope that you are able to figure out how you got it. It's so much harder not knowing. Good luck to you.

FYI.. from what I have read the actual number does not really represent how long you have had it or when you might have been infected. I agree, why isn't Herpes apart of routine testing..it makes absolutely no sense.
