I am concerned about an encounter I had a few days ago. I had oral and vaginal sex with a girl who later told me she had genital HSV-1. She made the distinction between type and also told me she does not have outbreaks on her mouth, only her genital area. She performed unprotected oral on me multiple times and we had protected vaginal sex multiple times. During one of those, the condom broke and there was some unprotected exposure for up to a few minutes. I did not perform oral sex on her. We also engaged in mutual masturbation.
I have read that female to male transmission of herpes is very low. I have also read that it is rare to transmit HSV-1 from genitals to genitals and that shedding doesn't happen too often - either symptomatic or asymptomatic. I would hope that for most of the time, except obviously for the one that broke, the condoms were offering some level of protection. After she told me, she also told me that she rarely has outbreaks and that she was not having one at the time. I do not know if she takes any sort of medication.
I think that I'm generally low risk for most of this, but an insight into the risk in this case for the following is appreciated:
Protected sex
Brief unprotected sex
Unprotected oral (her on me)
Kissing
Mutual masturbation. Mainly, is there a risk from me touching her and then touching my mouth, or from her or me touching her genitals and then mine.
Further, I have read that the time it usually takes to experience an outbreak is 2 days - 3 weeks. If I don't have any sort of outbreak in that period, is that a good indication I did not contract anything, or should I not use that as a method to determine my status? Would it be irresponsible to continue having sex during that time with no symptoms or outbreaks? Along those lines, do you recommend any testing. If so, what type and when should I have it?
Thank you.
