Anxiety, please advise

Hi,

I have posted a question several weeks ago on this site to which i have received an adequate response. I foolishly received an unprotected blowjob from an escort approximately, on July.25th. Do this day I have not experienced what people term as a "classic" outbreak. However this does not stop me from continuously observing or looking at my genetalia. The only symptoms that I can think of which cause me worry is that my penis is very hot upon touching. It is an itermittent heat which comes and goes, it also affects my thighs and my buttocks. I do not recall ever having a cold sore in my life. So even if i do test positive i will not know where the infection is located. I am going to get a blood test next week, however i know the recommended time to wait is 4 months.

This stress is eating me up. It's all I think about now, and its gotten to a point where its affecting my health. I had a loss of appetite a few days after the incident because of anxiety and I was continuously vomitting just thinking about it. I feel like I may have gotten a NGU or UTI, I have been tested for Chlymadia, and gonnorea which have both come back negative. My doctor didnt reccomend testing for Herpes since he could not see any active leasions. I am going to a GUM clinic next week and getting retested for the works.

I know the risk of transmission from oral to genital is low. The woman I was with claims to be a nurse and said that they are two different strains so I cannot get herpes from her. I can tell by her lack of knowledge that her other profession may not be true. I still fear that one day I will wake up and have herpes. It's tough to cope with primarily because I cheated on my girlfriend, and I'm afraid of infecting her if I do get a positive result.

The problem is the anxiety and thinking about this every few minutes. There has to be an effective way to cope with this, and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on how to deal with a situation like this?

I appreciate the time you have all taken to read my thoughts as I have no one else I can turn to until my tests are fully completed.

Regards,

A worried soul

Hey

I don't know if you've seen the thread that i had with Dr.hook, but I just wanted to update you since you've been very kind to my situation.

I did the blood test IGG specific and HSV1 positive and HSV2 negative were my results.

I did this 8 weeks post the incident. The doctors who examined me said the bumps were not related to hsv however they "could" be HPV and the derm who examined me came up with the same shrug of the shoulders diagnosis. However he did have them frozen off.

I have never had sexual intercourse, however have received unprotected oral several times throughout the years (virgin). My question is simple. Do I pursue another blood test in january for Herpes or let it rest now and move on.

The reason I ask is because quite simply HPV was not even a consideration of being transmitted through oral,  however that is what the docs "think" it is. Once again it's too small to tell. For peace of mind I might, however logically and not emotionally based do you think I should even bother with another blood test?

Thanks for all your support.

it's not herpes going on whatever it is. following up with the dermatologist is the best course of action.  could be many things going on.

Hey grace,

Still awaiting results for the HSV tests, I do have a question however. I wanted to know that these bumps that I described on my penis shaft are still present. I have tried steroid creams, and am now trying monistat to try to clear it.

The burning sensation still also persists on the shaft of my penis, my testicles, and my thighs.

I am going to see a derm, but the appointment will take me a month to get.

What bumps could persist for so long. They are three very small bumps, with a cluster on the head of my penis which has still remained unchanged.

Please advise. Three more days till the results will be available. Thanks again for your support.

correct - it typically presents with a pretty 'classic' herpes presentation that would be hard to ignore.

you've been seen multiple times now and no one thinks these are due to herpes.

http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/164603/HERPES-TESTING-FOR-CANADIANS  this might help you with finding how to get tested for herpes with a type specific test in your area.  since you are in toronto, you can also consider ordering it up yourself through healthcheckusa.com or tstd.org in the US and just taking a road trip over the border to a draw station to have it drawn and get your results via email too. some folks do that , especially if they have friends in the states they like to visit.

Hi,

Went to the sexual health clinic for them to take a look at the two small bumps on the shaft of my penis which have barely changed in 2 weeks. They indicated that the bumps were benign. When i asked for a specific IGG test to be done for HSV1 and HSV2 they indicated they do not do it there an that I would have to visit a private clinic. I've had these bumps examined by 3 GP's and the doctor at the sexual health clinic. They have all said it is benign. However none of them have a clear explanation for what they actually are. This is the part that bothers me. I do not want to put any corticosteriod cream on it because the bumps are painless and do not itch. The possible side effects of the cream are worse.

I have a hypothetical question, If I had never contracted HSV1 in my life, and if I were to be infected with HSV1 on my genitals, the primary outbreak would be severe considering I do not have any antibodies developed, correct?

Whatever the case the doctors have all said it is benign. However I cannot shake the feeling that the appearance of this bump is too coincidental post the exposure. The bumps are still present and are painless, I do not know what to think.

I'm going to try to find a private clinic here in Toronto, does anyone here know of any such place in toronto that will perform specific IGG test for Herpes?

Never had a cold sore in my life, but who knows might've been asymptomatic. This wed, I have a blood test, will find out some answers by next week hopefully,

I will post the results. Wednesday will be the 57th day since exposure. 8 weeks to be exact. Whatever the result I will have to get tested again on the 16 week mark.

Thanks for your time again, I will post results, and try not to have any panic attacks.

yep - the same stats apply to canada actually. we have very similar rates of hsv1 and also hsv2 infection in the two countries.

having hsv1 orally makes it unlikely you'll contract hsv1 genitally.  Some couples are together a lifetime and the one with hsv1 never transmits their hsv1 to the other either orally or genitally. It really is as much about bad luck as anything.

most folks who have hsv1, don't get obvious cold sores to know it. Only 20-40% of folks who have hsv1, get obvious cold sores.

Hey,

I know, I will have to get tested to determine some finality to this situation.

Petal, did you ever have hsv1 orally? perhaps that's why it took so long to transmit.

The problem is although people say very low risk, I keep reading of posts on this site where people get HSV1 on the genitals from a one time encounter. This is what worries me the most.

I don't think i've ever had a cold sore in my life. If I have no antibodies will the HSV1 show its classic symptoms?

Once again I know you cannot diagnose me or anything like that, however I am trying to gather as much information as I can from those educated on this topic.

Thanks again.

in our read before posting post we do have a link to the herpes handbook as well as to our herpes health page here on medhelp.

statistically 1 out of every 2-3 people you've ever been with in a life time has had hsv1. It's incredibly common and not really a reason to step up your worrying about all of this.

It still is incredibly low risk for a one time encounter, especially in the absence of an active cold sore. I have genital HSV1 and it took my partner over five years and hundreds of hours of oral sex to transmit his oral herpes to my genitals. And, as you'll read, almost always there are classic symptoms that appear. In my case, I could barely walk sit or sleep for a week because of the painful lesions that developed a few days later (that were confirmed HSV1 with a swab/culture).

No matter what, you're confusing guilt/anxiety with risk. I agree with Grace, consider a therapist at this point - I can vouch for the fact that it's a good resource from my own experiences in life.

Hey,

Just an update, I got a hold of the escort, and she did tell me that she had a cold sore, when she was in grade school and hasn't had one since.

That makes this even worse, cause the probability of me getting it has increased even more.

There was no sore present but now I know she has HSV1.

I really do appreciate you taking the time to talk to me gracie.

I will let post my test results here, at the 6 week mark, and then again later.

Perhaps, the mind is playing tricks on me and if so I'd like a post as a sticky dedicated to the symptoms of herpes, along with things that do or do not affect it.

Like you said the intermittent heat I feel is not a sign or symptom of herpes, maybe someone with more knowledge can create a thread for those with high anxiety as myself.

Once again thanks for talking to me.

herpes will not stay unchanged for 2 weeks.

herpes does not cause heat on the skin as you've described.

I know, but is the temperature of the penis supposed to be so hot, and is that a sign for herpes?

And I have two red bumps, really tiny which have not changed much in 2 weeks, one slightly changed, they look like pimples. The doctor i showed them to said herpes is much bigger and that it aint herpes until it grows bigger. But what
